Stay away from Covenant

Anything more then a minor injury will get you fast tracked to the unemployment line when steps need to be taken to reduce risk because of your company's safety record.

Ain't it funny how the same companies that don't use the DOT definition of a accident when reporting a driver to DAC, now are crying about their non DOT defined accidents being recorded on Safestat?

 

They are getting sued for an accident on I-57 in Southern Illinois that happened when one of their trailers brakes caught fire. Fire department responded, put out the fire and then one of the firefighters was hit and killed by a Greyhound bus that didn't move into the left lane. Now the family is suing Covenant as well as Greyhound. They claim that Covenant's failure to maintain it's equipment caused the accident to happen.

 

if they were so bad why drive for them three years? sounds like a disgruntled employee to me. which most bad posts about companies come from unhappy workers you never here the good ones say anything

 

Sometimes it takes awhile to reach a persons BS level.
Some can handle more than others.... If YOU found a good company, than
great-stick with.
But until you've driven the miles on their tires,you are in no position to judge any...................

They paint a 'rosey' picture up front. It is only after you have been used and abused by them do you really see the whole picture. You try not to believe they can be so bad to their drivers, but after you have been exposed to their ways over a period of time, it becomes very clear. This company has a really terrible image and anyone thinking of signing up with them should run the other way......fast.

 

I'm thinkin' Covenant's failure to properly maintain their equipment, along with the possibility that they don't properly train their Big truck truck drivers COULD have, at least, been part of the cause. It sure seems to have gotten the ball rolling.

Had the brakes NOT caught fire, what are the chances an emergency worker would have been killed by a Greyhound bus?

Is it really cause of what they claim or just a scheme to get more money?

Cars and Trucks both break down everyday across the nation. heck I had brakes catch on fire before, but thanks to a passing driver and told me I was able to stop and get the fire out before having to call the fire department.

I can see Greyhound getting sued. But Convenant is being made a victim of a different style.

Failure to maintain equipment? You can do some work on a trailer and get 250 miles down the road and have problems with the part you worked on, that what happen to me with my trailer fire. I was on a maiden voyage of a flatbed division of a 3 truck outfit . The did have only 3 Reefers but the boss wanted to spread out. My reefer unit was giving them alot of problems so they took it and traded it for a Flatbed. They planned on the other driver running the flat bed and I would get his Reefer. But I was the only one who had any flatbed experience (1 month) so I ended up with it. First load 250 miles later I was on the side of the road with the fire extinguisher. They had replace the seals and the seal turned out being no good on the rear axle right side. I was running at night and I had a driver come up behind me and called me on the CB saying it was RED Hot. So I pulled over to have a look and had to put out a fire. Lucky I was close to Lee's Truck Stop on I 81. 2 days later 1600.00 later we were on the road again with the trip from H*!! .. Was it cause of failure to maintain the equipment that I had the fire? No, replacement parts went bad. So it could been the same with Covenant. So I see it as it a big truck let's sue type of deal.

 

I agree it was not covenant's fault the firefighter got killed.
Maybey the idot firefighter steped out in the road not looking for traffic.
Here were I live the firefighters will not watch for pedestrains in a cross walk it does not matter if they are responding to call or not.

I have almost been hit two or three times by the person driving a car that belongs to the fire department.
Around here the firefighters think they have the right of way while they are driving cars I understand that in a fire truck with lights and sirens they have the right of way but they think that they have the right of way all of the time.

People need to learn just because everyone is suppose to get over when they see emergency vehicles, broke down vehicles on the side of the road does not mean that they can every time.

There were times out there that I could not safely get over so I had no choice but to keep my lane.
I do slow down some but I garantee that if someone steped out into my lane I would of not swerve for them.
It is more dangerous to swerve for something than it is to hit it head on.
I would try my best to stop before I hit anyone but all of you know if it happens and I am close to them there is not much of a chance for me to stop.
