I've procrastinated long enough and I'm going to start school at 160 Academy in Springfield, MO. I plan on paying out of pocket as the only sponsors were Swift and Schneider. She said Schneider is on a hiring freeze for new drivers. I've talked to a place called The Daniel Company and they run out to the west coast and back, but they pay by the day. I believe it is around 155 a day plus "bonuses". I'm leaning towards Transland. I searched on the forum, but haven't found any recent information about them. Anyone here currently drive for them? The only negative thing I've heard about them is a possibility of lack of miles. The recruiter said that once trained I should run 2200-2400 miles a week.

f you want reefers, we can give you more names that will hire from that school. There's some good ones to choose from.
I can only say what I've "heard" about Transland. Seems ok from what little I've learned over the years. It's a place to get the career started.
Trailiner Corp. runs teams to the west coast and back, then usually turns the load over to a solo driver in the east so you can head back west quicker. I guess it's still that way. They're in Springfield.

I’ve reached out to trailiner, but never heard back. The pay is decent with Transland and I know their recruiter is there to talk them up, but they really seem to take pride in their training. She invited me to come up and tour the office, trucks and meet with some of the drivers. Hopefully it’s as good as it sounds.

In your location; that's probably a good decision and choice to get the career started; Transland.

Every recruiter claims their company or you will average 2500 miles per week. Most recruiters aren't even sure what color the company trucks are painted. Don't make a decision until you talk to current working drivers at the company you are considering. Don't consider any "dollar" store" account regardless of what the actual name of the company is called. Every company with dollar store accounts cannot keep it staffed because it's a recipe for accidents and getting fired. The companies usually claim to pay more than Over The Road (OTR) but you waste so much time at customers you will simply get more per mile and less miles. You do not want to be a green rookie, have a couple of backing accidents, and be terminated by your first company after 3 months experience.

    I would appreciate any recommendations

    .
From what I understand one of their major customers is Oreilly Auto. She said I’d have to get my hazmat as they haul paint for them. She also asked if I would be interest in flat bed. She said it’s an additional 2-3 weeks training for it.

For reefers, Freymiller is one of the best for new drivers and they have tuition reimbursement. Problem is, they're so popular there may be a waiting list because they don't have enough trainers for all the applications from new cdl graduates. Never know: call and ask.

You will have to spend about $150 or so to get your HazMat. $85 of that is for fingerprints. It takes a few weeks for TSA to give you notice. It takes a couple of trips to the DMV. Make sure to get your tanker endorsement, no matter if you ever want to pull tanker trailers. Tanker is required for certain freight carried in/on flatbed, dry vans, and reefers.

All of the questions you can be asked are online at TruckerCountry.com in their practice test section.
