I just started driving and I am having some trouble starting from a stop, especially on a hill with a full load. I've been told to wait until you feel the engine start to pull then let off the brake and you should be good to go. Every time I do this the truck dies.I even let out the clutch very slowly like I am told to do. Should I be giving it some throttle at the same time? Any help about starting with a load or specifically starting on a hill with a load would be great.
Thanks

What gear are you trying to start off in?

With right foot on brake , start letting the clutch out; you will feel the engine start to pull the truck. Once the truck rolls a little, right foot off the brake and on the throttle.
I assume with a heavy load starting uphill you are in first gear starting out. It takes practice and experience. When you have no load or a light load and on the flat; practice the foot maneuver: right foot brake, let out the clutch till it starts grabbing; right foot to throttle. Practice, practice; you'll be glad you did; the time may come when you have to stop going up a mountain pass.truckingmechanic Thanks this. -

If the hill is so steep that it won't take off without giving some throttle, then go ahead, but try not to slip the clutch too much. You're using low gear when taking off on a hill, right?
