I will say Alex is very resourceful. He is running a new truck most of the time. When I say he is learning I have seen him get better in the years he has been on the road. He has to run a lot of miles to keep up with his overhead. He will eventually have to change IMO. Of course he is young and has enthusiasm, and tremendous drive. He would make a good Marine. 20 years in the Marine Corp would be easer than 20 years in a pickup.

True, had someone tell me last week I should get into hotshot. I had already been down that road researching it. As someone said recently everyone and their brother has a hotshot rig in Texas. If you go up and down 287 you will see near as many hotshots as you do true owner ops.

Plus it isn’t an easy life. Unless you get a hotel on long trips sleeping in the back seat sucks compared to a sleeper cab. If people think truckers can look road worn drive by a longer haul hotshot rig and take a peak lol.

Do those Rigs Buck the whole time like my personal vehicle does with the heavy boat towing ?

I would get beat to Krap coming down 96 between Lansing and Grand Rapids in my semi

Thank god for a air ride seat but it is still Brutal. Hated that stretch

I was close to buying a Hotshot rig. I ran all the numbers including standard vehicle deductions, fuel and maintenance, depreciation and all standard expenses comparing buying a new truck vs leasing like tow piglet. In the end based on running 10K Miles a month, it was very close when you considered 200K Miles on your truck after 2 years, the truck being completely out of warranty after the first year and a 2 year old truck with 200K on the odometer worth $40K less than you bought it and being so negative, what it would cost to get out of..I came to the conclusion that the lease was a better deal as I would only have to have a few grand in the truck, and I'd have new trucks every 6 months.. But even after that, relatively cheep getting into the business it still seemed really difficult to make a go of and there's no way I could sleep in a dually every night. Also, I want to learn this business and would never take on trying to drive and book loads myself right off the bat. That seems insane.

BTW, even Hotshot Dave is throwing in the Hotshot towel and going Semi Car Hauler it seems. He blew the engine up in his brand new Ram 5500 pulling a 5 car open trailer...4 months I think!! He admits that the trucks aren't meant to haul those kinds of weights day in and day out. He's awaiting a warranty new engine and selling the whole rig..BUT he's been down almost month.....OUCH....Expensive lesson to learn.

2000 7.3 I replaced the long block at 586,000 transmission rebuilt at 345,00 ball joints a couple of times, every hub a couple times, most small parts on engine. Change fluids and filters on time as I cannot work on it. 2nd trailer, first one had hubs catch fire, wheels come off a couple of times until my hard head finally realized I need to have the maintenance done more often. Some people say stuff happens but I believe I had a lot to do with it. Very expensive lesson.

From what I have seen the suspension and axles on those HotShot trailers are Way underbuilt for the weights their hauling and not a set up for longevity.

Tough to beat that 7.3. Totally old School and underpowered compared to the newer pickups.

    You running a manual?

The guy who I worked for on the farm back in 1981 had a 6.9 and he had a manual with a 2speed rear end in.

I think that motor was only 170 horse maybe being a natural . What’s that turbo 7.3 of your putting out ?
