If you live in the Chicago land area GOOGLE College of Lake County. They have a program. If you don't like their program, google the name of the company that does the driving part of the training for CLC and you get a bunch of names for CDL schools in CHICAGO.

What school did you end up going with? I looked at Star but with them I have to have an IL license.

There is the Star truck driving school off of the toll road and 95th street
behind 95th street produce where I deliver. It looks like a very well setup facility. They have a nice training yard and I always see a few instructors yelling at the drivers as they practice their backing skills. That about all I know about it.

I checked this school out. It's the only one I've checked out so far, so I have no frame of reference. A lady in the office (who cursed like a sailor...was funny as hell), offered a pretty nice discount if I paid the tuition in full up front...about $1000 off (for the basic OTR one month class)...sweet deal I say, but I don't have a couple thousand dollars laying around at the moment, so I have to wait and save, while I lose weight too...hahahaha, so I can pass that #### physical (lower weight = lower bp for me). When I was there, I saw a class outside checking out a truck...with an instructor....there were only five people out there with him, so if that's the class size, that's great too. I've also talked to a couple truck drivers who've gone to Star, and they said it's very thorough. Again, I have no frame of reference to compare to other schools (I'll be checking out Wolf Trucking School sooner or later), but it did seem alright there. They have their own docks to practice on, and all the driving tests are done there too...the state testers come to that facility. That lady also mentioned a grant program too if you're unemployed, which could pay for the entire cost of tuition, but doing that they usually make you take the two month course which teaches otr and local/ regional skills.

I'm curious about the part about students getting yelled at while practicing backing skills. I didn't witness that....is the yelling a normal thing, or were there some students of challenged ability driving those times? heh :sign5:
