Depends, can you do the work yourself? If not finance plenty of lube with the truck.

A lot of modern engines no longer have a solid one piece cam. The cam shaft is built using a hollow shaft, the cam lobes are pressed on the shaft. Sometimes the cams come loose on the shaft and are free to spin.
Shouldn’t be any valve or piston damage as the spun lobe just tends to sit there and do nothing.

It’s a million mile truck there’s no telling what else it may need.
Maybe @nasriza can give you a idea of what it may need.

Cam probably went when they flipped it on the side with engine running.. unless they hit a building the damage appears to be a rollover.

I wouldn't waste my time with it. It may be listed at $7500 but I bet it'll end up needing an engine. There's no way I'd ever do just a cam in a million mile engine, its worn out. Make the assumption that it will need the engine completely rebuilt. Also, unless the diffs and transmission have been rebuilt they're close to the end of their life too. Budget to have those done in the first year or 2 of ownership. If its the Volvo automatic I've heard those are not cheap.

As @Magoo1968 pointed out, it could have been laid over on its side at low speed. Maybe it rode along a wall or was scraped by another truck. There's damage from the hood back to the rear mudflap hanger by the looks of it. There's a reason they put that side in the shade and I bet it looks much worse in person.

That truck is a parts truck IMO.

The D13 is known for spinning cam lobes... Was a pretty common problem with the Volvos at the company I ran OTR for.

This is a very common problem these common rail have proved pretty reliable so far I wouldn’t tear into it if there is no oil consumption. Maybe runnoverhead often and check injectors status also engine wiring
