Personal conveyance is off duty. It's tracked different on ELD's as they need to account for the miles, but it's 100% identical to off duty.

So to answer, you can use pc on the short side of the split, but the long side has to be sleeper, so you have to log sleeper and not off duty for it to count.

    ^^^^^^ nailed it!!!
And, just to be abundantly clear, the 7 or 8 hour sleeper berth time has to be 100% continuous. You can not have even 1 second off duty, on duty or driving. It must be a complete, uninterrupted, 7 or 8 hour stretch of sleeper berth.

Nothing yet; I’ve been using it for my short portions for over a year and log audit has never said anything. Can use it at the start or end of the long portion but if it’s in the middle it’s now a 10.

I even called in to speak with them recently. I had used PC to leave customers that week but only for the shorter portions. They looked over my logs and said company policy had changed and I was showing too much on duty time at customers. They edited 2hrs back onto my 70. Not a word about my pc usage.

I’m not afraid to call them when I have a question but I’m not going to poke a bear for fun.

Just a quick note: the sleeper berth time has to be at least 7 hours and the shorter period (sleeper berth or off-duty) at least 2 hours (obviously has to be 3 hours if you took 7 in the sleeper). Any combination between 7/3 and 8/2, so long as they add up to 10 is okay; it isn't limited to only 7/3 or 8/2. If 7.5/2.5 works for you, then you can use it; 7.25/2.75, etc. It isn't much, but the little bit of flexibility might prove useful.

They applied the same hours to a team driving situation. Now the resting driver can be in the passenger seat while the truck is moving up to 3 hours before or after their sleeper berth time (again, so long as the sleeper time is at least 7 hours consecutive and all the periods add up to 10 hours consecutive; the rules here don't specify only two periods).

§395.1 Scope of rules in this part.
    (g) Sleeper Berths

Just got pulled into the scale coming into CA from NV on the 15fwy south bound...
They got me for 2 log violation for using Personal Convenience while doing slit shift " on my short splits while off duty not while in Sleeper berth"...
DOT told me any time after using Personal Convenience that I have to do a 10 hour reset after...I was mind blown by what he was telling me but there was no arguing or winning with DOT...
So he told me he was gonna educate me and said anytime we do a split shift that we always have to take the longer half of the split first 7/8 in Sleeper...
Can't be the shorter end of it first which if you read on the FMCSA website is incorrect...
Now I have these 2 violations and have to challenge him with FMCSA and waste my time...
Thank you all for your insight...

How your insurance cover your load if you are doing a personal conveyance.
On some companies, if youre under a load or have a pre-planned load added to your truck, you can not use personal conveyance until finish the job.
