    Hello fellow truckers,

Do I have any chance of joining a company with a +16 MPH speeding ticket? This was in a POV, not a commercial vehicle. (regardless of the vehicle - I was speeding and I am wrong for it) This is my 1st ever traffic violation of any kind in the last 10 years. I have 6 months experience in trucking.

I just applied for a company and the recruiter basically told me..

"Unfortunately you 16 over ticket needs to be 2 years old before we can move forward. I am sorry"

My understanding is that this is career ending for any truck driver and I should wait X' amount of years before I have the opportunity to find a decent carrier. This ticket affects the insurance company the trucking company uses.

Before anyone askes.. YES I tried contacting a lawyer (several lawyers) and NONE of them would work with me due to the jurisdiction/county and it's laws I was pulled over in.. the county I was speeding in does not like truck drivers and it's almost a career death sentence to be pulled over in said county.

The ticket reads "Exceeded posted speed limit (exceeded by 16-19mph)" so I'm unsure if that is simply a moving violation or a reckless driving violation.

If lawyers won't touch it - I've had luck writing directly to the court, and pleading a sob story about how it will affect my career, and then using the specific language . .

"I am willing to pay any and all additional court costs if your honor will consider reducing this to a non-moving violation".

Good luck. P.s. - what state was it in?

I was basically going to say the same thing. Don’t bother with a lawyer, just contact the court directly. I have had luck with this approach in getting a red light ticket reduced to a parking ticket. With the added court costs it was a pretty expensive “parking ticket,” but at least I got out of the moving violation (F you Hannibal Missouri!).

Wow 2 in 1 day? Just when I thought my luck was bad! I'm glad you still had your job.
Thank you for the recommendations! Yes I still have my CDL, thankfully.
Unfortunately I am far past this point and fee was paid, but I should have just went to the judge and pleaded.. or hell, the officer could have never made it to the hearing. My first mistake was speeding and the second was not pleading to the judge. Lesson learned.

    I was in Missouri.
Ha, Missouri too? That's where it occurred. Unfortunately I am too far from ever changing this, fees were paid and now I am stuck with this regret. Hopefully I can get back into the industry.

The mega carriers tend to be self insured. They also tend to swing back and forth with their tolerance for bad driving records, depending on their demand for drivers.

You couldn't find a lawyer? I've never heard of that. A lawyer will usually be happy to take your money even when they know you're screwed.

Well that's reassuring, maybe I can get back on with a mega. Yes I couldn't find a lawyer at the time. Every traffic/CDL laywer I spoke with, at the time, would ask the same standard question before any business was discussed "Are you a CDL holder?" and a follow up response was "Sorry we can not work with you". The reasoning behind this was due to a law change for that county (Phelps, MO). My only option would have been to plead to the judge in person, which I didn't have the means to do so while I was 1800 miles in the opposite direction. I would have gladly paid any price to have this violation moved down to a parking ticket!
