Just a word of advice if you are in a bad spot, but have an extreme cold weather bag…wear as little cloths as possible in the bag. Let the body heat from pits and unmentioned areas spread thru the bag. Nice and toasty. How I know..My time sleeping outside is measured in years.

I have the Webasto cab heater and put it on low. Then I drop my blanket over the side of the bed so it cannot shoot hot air everywhere. This keeps the bunk area warm but not hot. Also I open a little area so that my feet can be heated up all night long, diabetes keep my feet cold most nights unless I do this.

Must be driving an old truck or something. Lots of trucks today run the diesel burning bunk heaters. My company truck has diesel burning bunk heater that also heats the engine coolant. The truck engine has automatic starting when the batteries are at 12.2 volts. So you run the diesel burning bunk heat for 6 hour till the batteries hit 12.2 volts. The truck engine will start and run 2 hours to recharge the batteries and keep sleeper warm. I’ve the engine stops the diesel burning bunk heater take over again.

Detroit Diesel had this automatic start stop option back in the 90s. It will automatically start engine to recharge the batteries or heat or cool the cab. It would also monitor the engine oil temperature

Yeah, I have a 2009 Columbia. I'm going to have to dig a little to see what that truck can and cannot do. I'm going to have to find an old manual.

The 12v electric blankets sold at the Truckstops actually work pretty good. I had one once. Lasted a couple years. Best way to use them is to lay on top of it.

I'd listen to this man. When in doubt, choose the option that will allow you to survive if the truck craps the bed and help won't arrive for a while. Do the sleeping bag thing at minimum, even if you do make the bunk heater work properly. In a job like this, you really can't be too prepared.

No, 1lb tanks, are small ones that are not cost-effective but good for storage.

The heater can be dangerous, it has to have an open window and nothing near it or on top of it.

I lost a truck when a driver was using one because she could not figure out how to get the diesel heater working right, so instead of calling the office and asking us, she bought one of these and put it on the floor between the seats and there was something draped down from the seat that caught fire, she and her dog made it out with no problem but the truck went up fast.

Any issues with the Buddy heater and carbon monoxide?
Purchased one a few days ago but haven’t used it yet.
