My Expierence with Southwest Truck Driver Training,
I graduated a few months ago obtaining my class a cdl, when i attended they pretty much promised getting me a local cdl job.
I was fooled into beliving this, "ya no problem we can get you a job, we do it all the time ". The local job placement is why i chose this school, Needless to say this isnt the truth. It consist of giving u a small list whenever they feel like it, maybe once a week if im lucky of places hiring. Which i can find on my own from typical job sites, thanks alot. Ive applied at atleast 40 jobs since graduating with a clean mvr and have yet to be able to find a local job several months later due to no cdl driving expierence.
I feel they got my thousands and pretty much left me out to dry and have been no help at all with the job aspect. I cannot do OTR due to parents poor health or i would.
Not looking for pity or anything just wondering if anyone else has had similar expierence with this school and maybe help someone looking for a cdl to help educate them about these institutions. In the meantime just trying to stay positive about work, thanks.

sorry to hear about the misleading school helping with finding a job, it does happen often out there nothing worse then jumping thru hoops to get your stuff done and obtain your CDL and kicked to the side lines.Congrats on getting your CDL keep your head up somthing will come along, try some local contruction companies, equipment rental. Good Luck

Goodguy, check out waste management. I haven't started school yet but I've been doing a little legwork.
-
Agreed... try Waste Management. I used to drive for Waste Management (class B). They are always hiring Class A drivers & great company to drive for. Best of luck!

ya its unfortunate these places operate like this, its hard to get much usable info on these schools before making a decision and i knew they tell u what u wanna hear beforehand. I just knew getting my cdl is what i wanted to do and hopefull they could help with work. I have applied at sunstate, united rentals, and sunbelt rentals. As well as several construction companies. Awesome you have been trucking for 20 years..

i have applied there more than once, but ill keep trying

Not to Hijack your thread man but other than the job placement issue, what is your opinion of southwest? I'm in Phoenix too. (Chandler)

I went to AIT in phoenix more expensive great school. Could you do home every weekends or no?
-
it seemed to be ok, given my circumstance i wouldnt do it again for the money. But personally go to your local dmv and get the cdl book along with the practice tests on this website helped me alot. Everything u need to know to pass the written test is in that book and helpfull. As far as the actual driving i drove an international prostar 10 speed. Its easy to drive and manuever, easier than i thought it would be in my opinion. Only thing to get use to is double clutching to up shift and on down shift u clutch outta gear rev a few hundred rmps above where u took it out on the downshift and shift. goes in gear pretty easy on down shift. goodluck!

no i cannot at this time due to my parents health, thats why im trying to stay local.
