Ok newbie question here. Got approved with this company but what are they like? Seems their reputation is on par with Western Express. They want to greyhound me all the way to Arkansas from the West coast.
Southern Refrigerated Transport?

Oh boy. They're a "starter company" and you're right to put them in par with Western Express and I say this only by all the various postings and threads I've read here. I'd hate to see anyone go there and be "on the hook for more then about 6 months of commitment.
You can do your own "research" and draw your own conclusions. I could name a dozen other starter companies I'd recommend before them but I imagine you could do worse.
Have you applied at others? Reefer segment like SRT and others is a good option if you don't have immediate family that needs attention and you want to see the nation from coast to coast. But f that's not the case, I might recommend you reconsider and seek out other options.Rocknroller4 Thanks this. -

Western Express isn't a reefer outfit. Did you look into Gordon Trucking, WEL Companies, J&R Schugel?

Freymiller
Abilene Motor Express
Transport America
Super Service
All these hire with a long gap in driving.
If all you can get is SRT or Western Express, then do it because in 3 - 6 months or so you can move on. You'll get the most miles with SRT over Western. SRT does mostly coast to coast loads.
I'd put Abilene & Freymiller at the top of the list.Rocknroller4 Thanks this. -
May is a pretty good starter company
