    VENT!
While driving through Texas, around lunch time, I thought to myself "I should really try some Texas BBQ" so I saw signs for Soulman's BBQ (http://www.soulmans.com/) in Van TX which I was coming up to. It sounded promising and it's right next door to a Love's so I pulled in, parked it and went inside.

I tried the 2-meat plate and chose pork and beef. If ANYTHING, these two meats should be some of their better ones. So I got that with two sides of green beans and scalloped potatoes. Oh and a side of coleslaw. BBQ places should at least get coleslaw right. I got the BBQ sauce on the side, not knowing if the meat would need it or not.

First warning sign was the BBQ sauce was very runny. Second warning sign was the coleslaw wasn't anything spectacular. Third warning sign was the bbq beef was kinda dry. I poured the bbq sauce onto the pork and beef and it really didn't make a difference.

It's a really bad sign when I think to myself "You know, Sonny's is much better than this."

Maybe one of their other locations is better?

I gave up on Soulman's a long time ago about every time I ate in there I got sick.....

The food tasted good but just never seemed to agree with my stomach for some reason..

I haven't eaten at the one in Van, but have in Rockwall - it was ok, but not spectacular - being from TX, I'm pretty picky about my brisket. I don't eat cole slaw, but I've seen it turn out ugly when it sits out in the serving pan for hours on end....

And Soulmans is pretty expensive compared to most other BBQ places.

I think you may have just gotten a couple of lazy employees... sorry for your experience - if you want some recommendations, I can add some good choices for better BBQ.

One is Up In Smoke, exit 358 on I-35 - great food, much cheaper than Soulmans, just North of Waco.

As with all things, progression has its way of messing up a good thing
Whataburger has never been worse, there was a time when the chain was a
Texas exclusive where the burgers were "good"

The last 10 years they have followed the other chains where speed
    surpasses quality.

Several DQ's easily come closer to giving your moneys worth

What a Burger has taken a huge fall. All depends on manager and location. Most now pre cook and sort of heat the crap up. Still charge $7 bucks for dbl dbl. Might as well go to restaurant and get good mael

And TEXAS Dairy Queens are different than DQs in the rest of the nation, in case you didn't know. There was basically a revolt in the early 90s when DQ national HQ tried to make all franchise owners comply with huge changes to the menu... one of my favorites, the steak finger basket, was going away. That was one of the Texas DQ stores top selling items, so the Texas franchiseesm (all of them) seceded from the national organization... and that's why you have Dairy Queens in Texas, and Dairy Queen Braziers in the rest of the nation... and Texas is the only place you can get a steak finger basket.

Just some worthless trivia for you.

    Yup Thanks this.
