Well I had to share this trick with my fellow drivers.
i locked myself out of my 2014 Freighliner Cascadia , being a company driver for SCHNEIDER I was told that it was my responsibility to pay to unlock the truck . This happened luckily at my parking location for the weekend as I am a regional driver.
I called locksmith and they told me $85 to unlock it and I agreed to it. When they came, they couldn't open it and they said that they would have to make me a new key at the cost of $135 + tax if I provided them the VIN number .
I though if they can do that then am sure the dealer can do it as well . So I googled freightliner in my city , called them and asked if they would be able to make me a new key, sure enought they could with the last 6 digits of the VIN and it would cost $17 ....I told the locksmith guy I was good, I flew to the dealer and in 5 minutes they made me a key for $17 , that saved me $120 ...I was happy and thought I would share this !

Love IT!! Great post. Good thread. The very first thing I do with a new trainee is give them a key with a dog tag style necklace attached and the speech about the first thing you do when you get your truck all checked out at upgrade is get a spare DOOR and IGNITION (sometimes they are different - they used to be) key and put it in your wallet or on a necklace or a hide a key or whatever because you WILL lock the keys in the truck; it will most likely happen on the fuel island at their busiest time and you will pay DEARLY for it unless you have an old Pete that just about any key can open with a little fiddling. Nothing feels stupider (maybe some things but not many) than standing at the fuel island, blocking rush hour traffic, truck running and you outside with the keys locked in. LOL. Nice save. VERY nice. The old Pete's, opening the door didn't automatically unlock it. It opened the door, but if it was locked when you opened it, it still stayed locked when you closed it back.

Not that, that ever happened to me or anything. Not at the TA in Baldwin, FL and traffic didn't back up all the way back to the off ramp of I-10. Nope, nope, nope. Didn't happen. Just sayin' . . . you know. From what I've heard.

This only works for skinny, small or young. :) You can take a block of wood and a pry bar and pop the door under the bunk. The metal that catches the latch will bend out as it's bent on a 90*. Then you simply bend it back in place. No damage visible. Once under the bunk there is a latch you push to release it. Cost $0 and maybe a scratched knee.

That was a Columbia. A Cascadia should be similar.

I keep a magnetic key case on all my vehicles. They work wonders.

First thing I did with any truck I get is to go to walmart and make copies of the keys and I keep them in a little soap box and I put them in the windshield washer reservoir. Thats what I loved about my Volvo with knight, the only way to lock the door was with the key. Brilliant design! ;lol

I keep a key zip tied to both pairs or work boots. The likelyhood of me leaving the truck without shoes on is very low - and if I did leave without my shoes I probably have bigger issues than locking myself out.

Another trick is find someone else with a Freightliner like yours. Dont even have to be the same company, Freightliner only has so many different keys they use in their trucks.

Funny, I've been home since just before Christmas and will be headed out very shortly to start my year. I wrote my truck up for a few things before I left it at the yard. I have only 1 key because the last time it was in, the shop kept my spare. I get a phone call today asking if I left a key for 'em, uuuuhhhh no last time I did you kept it, it should be there. Sooooo, when I get a chance I will have to get a spare so I can give it to the shop again.
