I am thinking of getting a gulf coast filter for my truck and I am wanting to hear from guys who have it and their opinions of it.....So guys, is it worth the money?
So...How is that Gulf Coast Filter working out?

I have no direct experience with one, or any bypass filter for that matter, but have heard that the gulf coast is very bulky, and doesn't do any better job than their competitors who have much smaller units that are priced more resonable.

I have read that there are guys who have over 1 million miles using the gulf coast filter and never have changed their oil.....This would save alot of money in oil changes over a period of years.

fireba11 Thanks this.

Have you looked into Spinner II? Seems to be the best thing since beer in a can as far as bypass' are concerned. No filter to replace. I've got an amsoil bypass filter on my pickup but that oil only gets changed once a year so cost really isn't an issue there.. It's a good setup but for OTR application their filters are a tad pricey.

The biggest part to using bypass filtration (no matter who's you buy) is performing regular oil samples. If you aren't prepared to invest the time and money in doing regular oil samples then extending oil change intervals is a waste of time. money and effort.
I believe that doing oil samples is an integral part of preventative maintenance>but that's just me. -
I have the OPS System.I love this system. It is small and works wonderful.I have 1.5 Million on this old jaloppy freightshaker detroit 500 and i burn one gallon every 21,000 miles..Great investment.I have this little small lever that i open up with one finger and push it and out comes the oil to be sent out and tested.Very very Simple....

the gulf coast oil filter is just 2 rolls of paper towels, you can cut an old one apart and see!!!

I have the FS2500, also very happy with it. With this unit everything comes in the kit. No hoses or fittings to get.

The GC filter is a good one, but there are many other options on the market that take less oil to top off them with a filter change, and the Spinner II is a very good option. I have been partial to the FS2500 for several years. Extremely easy to install total package. Each kit is prepared for your truck/engine combination so there is no guess work, no having to find adapters and what not. Simple clean install that can be done in under an hour by yourself. And good quality stainless steel braided hose. They recommend a 10,000 mile filter change, but I have used them to 20,000 miles and not had any significant difference in soot levels because of it.
I guess it depends on what one wants, needs, and is willing to go thru to install a unit. I sure wouldn't get all hung up in micron counts and other marketing stuff. They all work good. Just get the one that you feel is the best value and helps you sleep at night. OPS, GC, FS, Spinner II, etc are all great products. Each one has maybe one or two things that gives them an edge over the competition, but in the final analysis, they all do a very good job.fireba11 Thanks this.
