When I was looking for a good tanker company in SE Wisconsin chinatown was nice enough to recommend a few companies. One of those was JLP transport in Horicon, Wisconsin and Kentucky. After an interview and road test.....I got an offer. I was a little wary of working for a company with 24 trucks and even more wary seeing as though they had just been sold to a little larger company Ottery Transport that had 55 trucks but I took the job. What made me feel better was my road test was done by the new owner of the company. Very impressed with him. Down to earth, also drives regularly. What didn't impress me was when I asked the for the offer to be put in writing...."Uh, we don't do that." I almost ran screaming! I smelled a big pile of BS! I didn't and I am so very glad I didn't! I have never been happier with a company. Yes, they can and will work your butt off....if you are a runner. Their equipment is well maintained and runs well. They usually run our 70 out then bring us home. They keep us moving so that usually takes 6 to 7 days depending on the run. We sit on some runs but most of the time we load ourselves (1-2 hours) and unload assisted but usually very quickly. Food grade tanker, mainly yeast. Of course, any job is what you make of it. I find it easy to make it good here.
So glad I went tankers!

What's the average pay per week if ya don't mind my asking? I've only been a trucker dry van for 1 year but have always dreamt of tanker-yanker since I was a kiddo.
I'm currently hauling beer for about $1200-$1400 per week but work the full 70 hours.MartinFromBC and Intothesunset Thank this. -
You won't miss a beat here. More if you want to stay out longer than a week.
Major difference is MUCH fewer hassles. Most of the time when we check in we get an "Oh good! You're here!" Instead of the "What the *%& do you want?"

So I ended up becoming a tanker-yanker
went with Schneider Bulk Tank Division because they seemed very good for a beginner like me. My other option for beginning probably would have been Prime Tank Division.
Training was paid about $80 a day in Houston, TX and Reserve, LA. They fly and uber you (no horrible Greyhounds) lasted about 3 weeks. I broke $1,400 for my first driving paycheck week so about the same as hauling beer...haha. But I will prob hit $2,000 per week once I get my raises and learn to do the job more efficiently.
I am willing to bet Groendyke, Dupre, Indian River, Farmer's Oil, Superior, etc. Will pay more for experienced tankers, but for starting out I think Schneider is a great place so far. I love how they have tons of terminals across the nation that you can shut down at.
Cons: recruiters lie their butts off like most big companies. The trucks are old and ragged out.Last edited: Nov 15, 2019
