I heard it gets snowy in upstate NY (Buffalo area) in January. Do the snow plow companies hire drivers out of NY state? I'm in MD. I heard it's in demand during heavy snow time. Anyone here with experience with this? Do I just need my CDL A license? Will the trucks with plows be provided?

the hiring probably was already done. last year around september/october is when i got hired on to plow. then when the snows fall, the companies call you up......and you had better be ready to get to the plow truck.......you might be late........and if you DO NOT have a CDL, all one could "hope for" is a plow job driving a pick up truck.......if the boss wishes not to drive, or his senior most workers call out sick.

Normally the first snow of the year in this area is in late Oct. This year it held off some, but since the lake is still warm and allot of cold air is here, the lake effect machine is working.
We have had around 3 feet so far and allot more will come.
If a county or the state is short on drivers then you can get hired at any time. But they try to have everything set up in the fall.
PA actually had signs up for several months. They were very short drivers. Not sure if they still are.
