Three questions about snow on trailers...
First, is there a Federal Regulation that requires it be removed before driving.
Second, do any truck stops have facilities or offer services to accomplish snow removal?
Third, if not, how do you deal with it?

I know there is scraper at Walmart DCs. They will not let us out until we get the snow off the trailer. I don't know if there is regulation, but it will weigh a ton. I am sure you can find scrapers at truck stop in snow states

I have never seen one at a truck stop......only at a hand full of shippers up north.
I have heard you can get a ticket in some states for having a ton of snow on the trailer.
Myself,I could not get up there and clean it off unless I carried a big ladder all the time. -
It's a catch 22. Some jurisdictions it has to be cleared off, all jurisdictions it's illegal to clean it off without safety harness and fall prevention devices.
Most vans, the roof is way too thin to walk on, not to mention slippery.
You may beable to get some of it with a roof snow shovel.

White_Knuckle_Newbie Thanks this. -
With a out a hinged handle not sure how you would ever get the center of the trailer?
-
That would help a lot.

Clear van roofs (metal ones at least) are safe to walk on, but with snow on there, I wouldn't even consider it. There are services in some areas that do it, I saw them in the Scranton PA area at a Whirlpool warehouse once. Not sure how you contact them. As for the laws against it, there are areas that have them, but more importantly, if snow/ice that comes off the trailer and causes damage to another vehicle, a lawsuit is likely.
I saw an ad last winter about a foldable extention shovel looking device where you could clean off your own trailer, but I haven't seen it this year, so it must have not been very popular.White_Knuckle_Newbie Thanks this. -
Seen the scraper thing at some shippers/receivers. Never seen anybody use them.
I would never remotely consider climbing on top of a Van/Reefer even in dry weather.
As far as I'm concerned the snow is coming down the same way it went up. -
I know you can get ticketed on the Turnpikes and think in NJ if not mistaken.
