    Nah, Clyde died in 2002.
Max started USX and David Parker, Max's stepbrother and Clyde's stepson, started Covenant. Both companies expanded greatly by acquisition, which is why there so much speculation when one of these companies pull someone else's trailer.

Here's a list of Covenant's acquisitions that I'm sure is lacking: ATW , Harold Ives, Bud Meyer, Conway Truckload, SRT, Star, and I'm sure a few others.
USX has done the same thing, though I haven't kept track. They did buy Southwest Motor Freight from Clyde though.
Just to show the you gins here, Swift was doing the same thing at the time buying MS Carriers, Dick Simon(called Central and owned by the owner of Swift, Jerry Moyes), and a few other not as big companies.
Before and during these acquisitions, driver pay was pretty competitive, but it's stayed at those rates since then. In 2000 as a rookie, I was making .42 split team and .28 solo at Covenant. Training was also 8 weeks long. Most weeks I made 1000+ running reefer for Danny Wells. I'm sure glad the cost of living hasn't gone up in 12 years, oh wait a minute.
