So I had co insp done and the guy doing insp told me 2 -u- joints are a little loose & there is a little play in slip yoke I think he called it. all shafts, -u- joints are original except for one. 19 years on the parts. I watched him move up & down part of the drive shaft. not much movement, but you can see it. I asked if it just needed more grease? am I not greasing enough? he did not know why it has play but it does. did not write it up, just let me know about it. I usually grease the u-u joints til I see the new grease come out, but on the 2 other grease fittings, there is no where I can see for grease to come out, so I usually pump 20 pumps or so. he also said he thinks the front slip yoke or drive shaft, I dont know which is which, may have some sort of plastic in it & it may be wore out. soooo.. if these parts have play & are loose, do they get replaced with new, or is there another way to fix this ? I do not mind spending any amount of money to have things right.
slip yoke, joint ? bad?

When you are grease your U/joints and donot see grease coming out of a side of U/joint then put a hose clamp with rubber inter/tube cut too size under it on the sides that are showing new grease coming out, tighten them up and start pumping till you see new color grease flowing out the one that were not showing new grease, next time you grease it all 4 should flow out of each end!

I had the same problem with my yokes on my international. If it's the yokes on the driveshaft they have to cut the old one off and weld a new one on. It costed me 1300 to have all new u joints put in, a new yoke welded on and the driveshafts balanced.

never heard that trick before.
once you have play in a u-joint its time to replace it, more grease won't take the play away. it will make you're new one last longer though. i would replace them asap as a broken u joint will cause a lot of damage. to anything within reach of the whipping drive shaft (air lines air bags possibly even tires ect.) if your u joints have lasted 19 years you are probably doing a sufficient job of greasing them.snowblind and heavyhaulerss Thank this. -
It's hard to say without checking it myself, but U-joints can have play due to wear in the joint, or they can have play of a yoke is stretched out. Yokes generally get spread from U-joint pullers forcing a bad joint out, so that is probably not your issue since they're original. I'd guess that they have some play in the joints themselves, which means you should probably change them sooner than later. A slip yoke will have a little bit of play, so it's a tough call not seeing it.
