    What's up with this?

I saw a driver parked next to me with a pete. His shifter had barely a gap of 4" between the ceiling of the cab and the top of the shifter knob. He had his seat so low that his chin was in line with the bottom of his door windows... doesn't look comfortable.

I wanted to take a pic, because this configuration makes me curious. Is it just the same logic as putting really tall ape hangers on a motorcycle? Just being silly?

I'm just wondering if I'm missing something. Any info would be helpful. I'm figuring this isn't that great, since I hardly see it out there.

The driver's truck was super cool, though... I was just thrown off by his posture and really tall shifter. The preselect is way up there, too!

The driver was tall, too... somewhere around 5'8" and 6'2" Saw him get out and walk around to check his trailer when he parked next to me. Just throwing some perspective.

    Curiosity is killing me!

I'll be on later tonight to check the thread!

THe seat was on the floor and slid back into the sleeper, the important thing is, "did he look cool"???

It looks pretty stupid and it's got to be uncomfortable but they think it's cool. Who am I to question it?
It's like in the 80's when guys had those feather roach clip things hangin' in the truck floppin' around and they wore a ton of turquoise jewlery....It made no sense and it looked stupid but they thought it was cool.

I drive with the seat on the ground but I don't have a high shifter..... Now when I sit on the ground the seat only goes so low.. I am 5"11 and my shoulders are at the bottom of the window approx.... I can fully see over the dash and steering wheel... I can only go so far back as it is a day cab... I don't sit like this to be cool I sit like this because it's comfortable.... I hate the seat always bouncing with the bumps.. The only time I'll have air in the seats is if I am driving into a off-road type of situation...

Our steering wheels don't adjust in the truck so I find this to be the most conformable position for me... I have clear views of all 6 mirrors... So not everyone has this posture because it "looks" cool....

As for the shifter... I have seen lots of these in trucks again with the guys sitting very low in the seats (like too low where the head is at the bottom of the window and they are looking through the steering wheel not over it)... I think having the shifter higher then that would give you more shifting leverage the stick doesn't move as far because of the height.. Something like that.. I could be wrong..

    I think it's a Peterbilt thing....

Right and wrong....You would have more leverage because of the longer lever. (Although I don't see why anyone would need it)

The throw would actually be longer at the top of the longer lever...

I'd be inclined to go with the "they think it looks cool" crowd on this one. At 6'2, there's no way in hell I'd put my seat on the floor, personally. But to each their own. On a side note, I do wish the shift lever in the Vovo I was driving had been just a couple inches taller, though.

Yeah you right they are I meant to say the throw would be longer.....

I don't know you would need more leverage either...

Witching - Yeah it's hard to say sometimes... I mean it's all in how comfortable your are.. Some do it to be cool and some do it because it feels right and comfortable.. For me it's feels right.... I think if I was taller like 6'2 in a day cab that having the seat to the ground would put my legs to close to the peddles.. In which case lifting the seat would give you that distance...

According to Donner Livingstone who has a long arse shifter he says it gives him more leverage.....i dont know why you would need more leverage as the stick should slide right out of gear practicly on its own if shifted correctly.

Personally I dont like the long shifter i dont like the way they look, as for the seat to the floor, my seat unfortunatly has to be almost all the way down so i can push the clutch to the floor when i stop for the clutch brake. But once i get on the interstate i put it up some because the bumps make you bottom out and slam into the floor which kills your back.

Just out of curiosity, sit on the floor like you do and look over the hood and mark a point that is the closest in your line of visuion. Measure it from your front bumper, if a small car had snuck in front of you and stayed close to you, could you see it ??????
