I'd like a satellite radio to install in the Volvo "garage" above my head, I suspect others would like a satellite instead of CB, but not an in-dash installation.
The Filipino Customer Service agent was clueless regarding CB radios, and the mounting pads in heavy trucks.
What would the trade terms for this?
I call it garage, and mounting pad, but nothing pops up on google.
I'd like to have the CB antenna cable screw onto the satellite radio.
Any ideas?
Sirius XM radio packaged as CB form?

And, of course, I don't know much about this stuff and may be overthinking the situation

I am guessing that you want to put an XM/Sirius head unit(tuner) above you instead of using the XM that is already built into your instrument panel AM/FM/XM exisiting radio.
You can put the XM tuner anywhere, it needs it's own special antenna and wiring, a CB antenna will not work. You need 12V power to it, and I would suggest the direct wired coax adapter that puts the output from the XM tuner directly into the AM/FM antenna input on your existing radio.
Running all of that from above your head down to instrument panel and hiding the wires will take some doing but not impossible. Depends on how clean you want the installation to look .
Crutchfield has techs that will understand what you are trying to do, and sell you what you need to do it

It's not built to be there. The cb antenna system is totally incompatible with xm radio.
I'd suggest using it for a cb/weather radio as it's designed.

Amazon.com: SIRIUS XM Radio RG6 COAX Antenna Conversion Kit: Home Audio & Theater
"This is a complete kit allowing you to use RG6 COAX cable to extend any Sirius or XM Radio antenna for longer cable runs. One connector is used to convert the antenna connection (SMB Jack) into RG6 and the other connector is used to convert back to SMB to plug into the antenna port on the receiver. This is perfect for professional grade SIRIUS XM Satellite Radio installations. For cable runs of over 70 total fee including the antenna cable you will need a satellite radio inline amplifier. -
That allows you to extend the cable, does not allow use of the CB radio antenna. The XM/Sirius antenna has more than sufficient wire included to make it from the ideal mounting spot, which by the way is on the roof of the tractor, not on the mirrors. Mirror mounts will work, but not as well as a roof mount. Take a look at all the OEM antenna installations on new cars. All in the center of the roof.

i went thru this exact situation. and was going to run dual sat antenna until i found this out. first off what year is your truck because if its new enough (mines 2011 670) it will have built in sat radio antennas. the 2 antenna that are on the mirrors are mulit antenna and are cb/tv/sat radio. somewhere behind the dash radio area you will find a yellow square plug that looks like the pic below. that is the sat radio antenna plug. if you have an aftermarket deck that is sat ready you can get the sxv200 vehicle tuner or if you have an external sat radio then this yellow plug will plug into either BUT you will need this Sirius XM Radio FAKRA Antenna Adapter Connector Sirius XM Radio Factory Antenna Adapter: Amazon.ca: Electronics i found the signal way better with the 2 mirror antenna than just the one sat radio antenna. if you wanted to mount the sat radio up top in the cb area then you have to get the sat radio antenna wire extension to run from the yellow plug, up hte a pillar and across to the cb area, then run the audio out back down the deck and plug it into the aux on the radio. alot of work. personally id get a aftermarket deck and sat radio tuner. makes for a much cleaner install. if you have any questions just ask me.
