Hey All, Apologies if I'm posting to entirely the wrong forum.
I am looking to get a medium sized (16-18ft) box truck for my business. My cargo takes up a lot of room, had to be covered, but is very light.
I was wondering whether there are Isuzu NPR type diesel trucks with a single axle setup and larger wheels for better gas mileage with a light load. I think I've seen fords like this but I was leaning toward the Isuzu... I am looking to get the best possible gas mileage with a box on wheels.
Also, a little farther fetched -- a modified transaxle to get a better final drive ratio for modest accelrations but higher mileage??
Any guidance much appreciated. All the best.
Single axle NPR type box truck? ?

How much weight are you looking to haul? The Isuzu/GM trucks come in a number of capacities, and are powered by a 5.2 liter V8 diesel, if I remember correctly, vs. the 4.6 liter V8 of the Ford LCF.

I have a Chevy W4500 14' box truck which is the Isuzu built truck with Chevy logo. 15K GVW, 6.0 Gas Engine. The Isuzu and Chevys are absolute crap in my opinion after owning it since 2008. Nothing major mechanical, just feels like junk all around. Test drove the diesel, way underpowered running with a load and it was gutless which is why I went with gas engine...and wound up with a whopping 7-8 mpg.
The Ford LCF cab was totally uncomfortable and engine was just sad. Wasn't impressed with the Sterling line either. If you are just staying locally for in city driving, the Isuzu will be probably be fine for ya plus there are a ton on the used market. We travel up and down California on 250 mile trecks, and if I had to buy another small truck, I would go with the International line hands down.
Depending on how much cargo room you need and miles you will be driving, look into a extended Sprinter van or even a "cut away" van...which is the van body and frame with a small cargo box...way more comfortable of a drive and better gas mileage. -
Thanks -- You hate the gas one or the diesel? Cause I am looking at diesel. I'm not going to be driving the vehicle a lot, I want to get the best possible gas mileage on occassional long hauls on the highway, which is why I was asking about single-axle.
Love the Sprinters but that's too rich for my blood. Looking for a used box. -
Hate the truck overall!...Definably go with diesel in your case, will get much better MPG then the gas.

As a long-time parts guy...you might like the price on an Isuzu...but you WILL hate the parts & labor prices to do ANYTHING on the beaters. Ungodly expensive on brakes & normal wear items. I don't have a good answer other than maybe IHC...Get some ficitcious estimate if you don't believe.
