I've heard the fuel mileage sucks on them.
The way it was told to me was....them 600hp motors will pass everything but a fuel stop...LOL
I've heard the same about the C-16 Cats also. -
Actually they do pretty good, depending on your driving habits they will easily get 7mpg.... Just be careful the sig600 is not known for reliability.
ramblingman and Donk Thank this. -
Never heard 7mpg's out a 600...lol. Next time they tell you that ask them what it gets with a load on it...LOL
I know a guy who bought one when they first come out, he loved the power but said 5.5mpg was the best he could get. We were hauling heavy at the time. -
Thats because you put 45k on the drives and another 45k over the spread. Im surprised he got 5.5! lol
-
I only did that once......and it was 45,500 on the front and 45,500 on the rear....
The guy I knew was back when we was hauling coal and scrap and we only grossed out around 100k -
I have a ISX signature 600 in my Pete.. It's been a GREAT motor.. absolutely NO problems besides regular maintaince and a water pump # 650k.. I have 730k on it now. I've had it since it had 296k on it.. From day 1 it dribbled oil out of the blow by tube, Cummins techs say this is normal... So about every 2500-3000mi I have to dump a gal of oil in it.. (Depends on how much I idle)
As for fuel.. A LOT depends on YOU.. the rest depends on what you are pulling.... A tech once told me.. "The engine has the ability to drink a lot of fuel" He is right! IF you can behave yourself and keep your foot out of it you CAN get decent milage.. 6-6.5 is decent... But, if you want to play and show off... be sure you can get 4.5 pretty easy too!
I'm real happy with this motor.. I missed the electric fuel pump upgrade.. Other than that it is an early motor.. I have always ran the overhead every year.. (Book says every 100k) I average around 5.5 - 6 mpg on regular loads.. (I pull a RGN / 35 ton Double drop, w/ a flip axle.) Some high wide and heavy stuff just can't get any sort of decent milage with it no matter what you do.. (The absolute worst I ever got was a O/D load that was litteraly a parachute shaped piece of duct work.. I got 3.8mpg from Laredo, TX to Richmond, VA)! The 2nd worst was going west across Neb. and Wy. pushing against a 50mph headwind.. Then I got 4.5 no matter how fast I drove.. I tried 55 and tried 75.. same MPG..
The jakes on these work unbeliveably well, I still have original brake shoes in my truck.. (Try that in a Cat..) She pulls great, even with 3:55 rears and 11R24.5 rubber. Best truck I've driven.. Least amount of troubles!
I have heard that they made a couple of different torque ratings and HP ratings.. I heard that they had problems too with the 565's that were turned up to a 600.. or the 600's that were not putting out 2050 ft/lbs. of torque.. Mine is a full blooded Signature 600 w/ 2050 ft./lbs. of torque from the factory.. I hear that it makes a difference.. The same for making sure it was serviced regularly.. (I do my oil every 12-15k) change all the filters, (have always used fleetguard filters!!) I also use additives in my fuel.. My motor realy likes the low sulpher fuel not the ultra low.. I loose 1/2 mi. a gal. when they switched from low to ultra low.. And I can notice the power difference beetween the 2..
Hope this helps?? Any more ?????Les2 Thanks this. -
You must be thinking of the B model CAT with weak jakes. Frankly i found out that the engine brake on any cummins sucks compared to a E CAT.
