I remember one time back in 79 I took one toke of the devil's lettuce and instantly became a lying, thieving, ##### monger.
Took me years of rehabilitation and therapy to get over it.
My advice is to follow the law you #### hippie!

I'm just dumbfounded at the amount of obviously brainwashed people around here.

The question is, should drivers be allowed to smoke up ON THEIR TIME OFF. And about half the responses are a version of "You shouldn't drive high!" (which no one is advocating) or "It's against the law!" (which is why we're questioning whether the law should be changed).

You think weed causes cognitive impairment? Someone even mentions marijuana and half of y'all lose your fargin' minds. Ask yourselves why that is.

That may not be true, about the DA. They'd have to prove conclusively that you used recently, or "just prior" to the accident. Just because you smoked it day 1 of the month and day 29 you had an accident doesn't prove conclusively that you used just prior. Hence probably why there is a breathalyzer now, for the detection of that nasty smelling stuff. I am not one for legalization by the way. Smoking weed isn't illegal. Possessing it is, if its not legal in whatever jurisdiction you get caught in. Alcohol is very detectable in a very short amount of time after consumption which is why breathalyzers are prominent in prosecuting DWI perpetrators.
You watch a lot of sci-fi? I doubt that will happen while any of us are even still on this earth, let alone driving a semi truck. Even the dang autonomous trucks that are supposed to replace us drivers still have a driver in the seat in case it goes wonky. 3 hours sleep? There are some folks who truly don't need more than that to function. DOT regs don't require you to sleep on your breaks even. They only require that you be relieved from duty for a certain period of time.

I worked at a company in Houston a long while ago, one driver put a six pack in his cooler in the headache rack. Never got caught. Nobody cared.

The government doesn't say what you can put in your body. Using drugs isn't illegal, possessing them is. The most "government" would do, is police or ems taking you to a hospital or the loony bin if you tried to harm yourself. If you read a deodorant stick it says "remove cap twist up bottom", if you took this literally and did just that it might hurt when ya walk, and when ya fart it might smell amazin'. But government might think you just aren't right and want to have you committed or they won't even give a ####. Do that same thing with a bag of cocaine, and they got yo ##* dead to rights when they catch you.

My thoughts are based on my experiance as a past user! They are also based on my observations of other users both before and after quitting. Thier actions, reactions, thier personal experiences both before and after quitting. Recently an acquaintance who got hit said to me “ I’ve been driving for 40 years and don’t understand how I didn’t see that one coming? “. It was easily preventable! I asked him if so what changed?
Knowing full well his personal situation and the people he recently surrounded himself with due to his choice for a new woman being the dope smoking type and me seeing the signs that abound.
Well hopping he was old enough to get smart and stop before anything bad happend didn’t work, 3 incidents later and one drug test after the police say “I smell pot on you” he is out of a job, arrested and no CDL.

Just like those who claimed they could drive better drunk than sober years ago, those who claim no after affects are full of it!

Again, this whole topic is stupid. You want to smoke weed on your time off, thats on you. However, regardless of state law, its illegal. If you have it in your system and god forbid, something happens. You will get nailed by either the DA or some civil lawyer. If its a accident that involves serious injury and/or death. They will take a blood sample and test it for drugs. They can tell by the amount in your system when you last used. If a DA decides not to charge you, the civil attorney is going to nail you. Bottom line.

Do what you want on your time off, but remember that bad #### happens.

Maybe read the thread before rehashing unrelated arguments. This is a thread on drivers' opinions on what they would think of federally legal and testable weed. Basically think of it being the same legally as alcohol for this thread.

Maybe just leave it illegal and make the penalties stiff enough that we don’t have to worry about it anymore
