Hey what’s going on y’all. I’ll get straight to the point. I’ve been cdl driver for almost 7 years. I’m thinking about purchasing my own tractor trailer 53 ft. Do you guys think it’ll be worth it? I mean, with all the expenses and all? Would there be enough work locally? Or is over the road the best option to make money?

Probably not right now, prices are crazy.
Seen a 2007 dry van, they were asking 30k
Used to that was maybe 5-8k.

I just bought a 28’ pup trailer to tow behind the flatbed, to carry all the bags of cash I’ve been making.

With fuel as cheap as it is, and parts so plentiful, I couldn’t think of an easier time to put a second mortgage on the house and get to trailer truckin’.

Well to be honest I’m currently Trying to make a plan. That’s why I thought I’d come on here to get some suggestions and opinions. I just hear a lot of truckers saying it’s much better to be your own boss own your own equipment. I just don’t wanna jump into it you know. I wanna do my research for a few months and get all the opinions on it as I can you know. I never thought about owning my own stuff, so I never did the research on prices and all that good stuff. So this is pretty much all brand new to me. Any info would help me. All I know is I’m tired of working under these companies and bosses lol. Any info would really help brotha

Welcome aboard, my friend. This comes up a lot here, you came to the right place. I'm the BIGGEST opponent to truck ownership right now. Fact is, history-wise, you couldn't pick a worse time. You'll find many share that view, don't dismiss this as heresay, people here know what they're talking about and are still actively in it, mostly because, with high payments, they literally CAN'T afford to stop. Most that are "making it" today, are owners that have had accounts for many years, a newbie will get all the crap they don't want to haul. I got in after deregulation,( 80's) and it was literally, you have a truck, you can be hauling diapers that very next day. There was too much freight, and ANYBODY with a truck could make it. Fast forward to today, you want your own truck, tune into the "Freedom Convoy", coming to an American city near you soon, these are mostly O/O's who are working for nothing, and have nothing left to lose, they will be arrested, so might want to hold off until this blows over. I'm sure there will be many more trucks to choose from shortly.
I DO think history will repeat itself, it usually does, and with the driver shortage in company jobs, shippers will have no choice but to hire "outlaws" again to move the freight, rules be darned, and THAT'S when you move in with a truck. Right now, a member here posts literally DOZENS of great company jobs. New truck, competitive wage( whatever that is) benefits for you and your life partner, you'd be a fool to buy your own now. Good luck.
BTW, wore out is a cool guy, straight shooter , but is yanking your chain,,you'll notice they don't have any new trucks,, and probably never will.

that’s wild. How much should a trailer cost, brand new today? If they weren’t so over priced

Well, at today’s price, whatever the salesman wants.
    I bought a new trailer in 2019, 39000.
    Same trailer is now 60000
