I picked up Volvo Day cab 2012 model and already deposited 2000 bucks. It was involved in a minor accident just the cosmetic damage. It's on salvage status. It will have a rebuilt status.
I talked to the dealership they don't have any information regarding the rebuilt status but they are covering the standard warranty. The insurance coverage is pending I m looking into it. Does anyone know about the Canadian Laws regarding buying the rebuilt status truck? What Are the Drawbacks of buying it? Please let me know .
I will be much obliged.
Thankyou.

I would want all the info I could get. "Rebuild" doesn't just mean a new hood, ya know.
900,000-tons-of-steel and atwal Thank this. -
Yaa, on this truck it's driver side fender and they redo the hood and they even not changed the fuel tanks, I can see minor scratches and no engine work has been done. Even the original rims and tyres.

Totalled and reconstructed on vehicles in the US is no big deal. It only means the cost of the repair exceeds the threshold of the value of the vehicle. ie. 75 to 90 percent. Unless you know how to repair this vehicle or know someone that can and charge you a descent price stay away. Shop rates are very high. For a semi or motorhome you are probably looking around 120 an hour or more.they will mark up parts around 25 percent and paint and body supplies too. If you have these things covered you should be ok . But keep in mind when you go to sell it people are leary on purchasing a vehicle with a branded title. You should really have a body shop that works on these kind of vehicles not just your average collision center come and write up an estimate for you an compare that to the value of it. Tell them what going on and pay them for their time. Buying and fixing totals can save a lot of money but you can also get into a situation where you spent way more than the vehicle is worth and lossed alot of money and could have bought something turn key
also a reconstructed vehicle is not worth as much as one that has not been in a wreck. Its called diminished value.atwal Thanks this. -
Ya good
But I'm buying a vehicle which is already fixed -
Mechanically This truck looks ok to me . And price wise in canadian market it's ok too...
I'm concerned about INSURENCE and any other dot safety and any hidden issue -
So... was this a total or just a wrecked truck? Because if it didn't total it will still have a clean title.
-
Right now the status is SALVAGE .
but the dealer told me that it will be REBUILT. Once he get the safety and emission as to me there are no major replacements on the truck but just the fender and cosmetics. I don't know why there are totalit it's a body shop guy who is selling it to me. -
It totalled because of repair cost versus value. This is on the insurance side. They bought and fixed it and since THEY are the ones fixing it they dont have the huge bill of paying someone else to fix it so for them they can make few bucks. By the looks of the picture it is just cosmetics and not structural. Ive been in the body shop industry for 15 yrs so in my opinion I think you are going to be ok. And yes it is a branded title still.
atwal Thanks this.
