Hello everyone.
I'm looking to buy my first truck and I'm interested in the 2007 Peterbilt 387 because it fits my price range at about $35,000, it's aerodynamic, good engine and I'm trying to avoid the 2008-2009 series due to all the clean air system problems all trucks that year have.
I just do not know if the '07 Pete 387 is a reliable truck or if it has a lot of problems... I have only driven Volvo but I heard the Peterbilts ride smoother...
Should I buy a 2007 peterbilt 387?

all trucks have problems, you will hear some say this truck is great, some say it sucks
as one who bought a used truck, i would say be prepared to do work on it, or have a good mechanic close by to find and fix the many problems it will have
if you are not familiar with the truck ahead of time, you will have a long learning curve
i saw truck paper had a pre egr 387 in MD for $25k, i know nothing bout pete's or the 387 other than what i have heard, it is my second "dream truck" after a Classic, right now i drive a columbia and am loving it (though i always hated columbias before) -
Do you have a plan as to how you are going to make money with this truck? Or you think it just looks cool and you have to have it? When I say make money, I mean how you will increase your take home pay, otherwise, what is the point of carrying the risk that the engine might blow up and cost you big time?

Thank you everyone for replying.
The truck I'm looking at has Cummings with 450 hp, 13 gears, 550 k miles... It is a good looking truck but I'm not getting it for the looks. I'll be pulling a reefer, doing a lot of Midwest. The dealer wants $39k but they said its negotiable.
From what people say 387 get decent mpg with its aerodynamic shape. Some people say they are ok but also that they have a lot of problems. I'm concerned because I cannot afford to buy a truck and have it break down right away...kenworth t2000 is the same truck with more storage... -

i bought my truck, put my last nickel into it, it lasted 4 yrs without so much as a breakdown, then the engine DIED
it could have been worse, it could have been better, so deal with life as it isLoke Thanks this. -
@gokiddogo - I have asked myself the same question "am I ready for this?" ... But @esx1110 is right, I have to take the risk sooner or later... I'm a workaholic so I'm not afraid of work... Buying a truck feels like a gamble; I just wanna take more of a calculated risk, that is why I reached out to you guys for your opinions... You guys are right, all trucks have problems, I just think that some do more than others ...
