I have a 2009 Volvo with a factory installed inverter, and a shore power plug. Isn't it supposed to charge the battery when plugged in???

Are you it is shore power and not for the engine block heater. If it is true shore power them it should run everything and charge for the batteries

It is shore power, I also have a block heater. Yes I have tried it. It keeps the 110v appliances going, but I have to run the APU to keep the battery's charged. I am home most weekends, and use the shore power all the time , so I don't have to empty the fridge.

Had an '11 670 with shore power, it only powers the outlets.

I'm assuming you're talking about the plug on the lower, driver side on the rear of the sleeper?

Yeah, that defiantly only powers the outlets. I know this, because I had a 1,500 watt inverter into plugged it, so I could have power throughout the cab without running a line from underneath the bed. Instead I mounted the invertor in the storage box underneath the right side of the bed, fed the wires to the batteries through the hex opening in the floor of the cab and installed the wires on the battery terminals, then just used a 3' extension cord into the the plug through the rubber seal.

If it had feedback to the batteries, they would've fried and the truck would've caught fire, and that truck would be a wrecker yard and every guy that passed it would've said-
"Wow! what a ####! He thought the shore power, charged the batteries!"
That, or more likely, a few fuses would've popped.

If you want your batteries charged from shore power, you can always add a battery tender to your shore power system. It's pretty easy, but make sure you split it off the line prior to being connected to the outlets/shore power system. It's safer that way.

Depends on what model and options you have. I've got a '12 with the factory installed Xantrex inverter, it charges the batteries when plugged in, displays volts, status etc.. Good unit so far. Mine is also located in the drivers side luggage compartment, not underneath like the old style so it keeps it out of all the crap that gets sprayed up.

Ah Ha, I found the inverter manual. I do have the Xantrex inverter/charger. It passes the 110 thru when plugged in and changes the ac to dc to charge the batteries, or it's supposed to

    KB3MMX Thanks this.

Do you have the lifeguard system? It's usually standard with the factory inverter charger system.
Mine charges the truck batteries when plugged in, it's nice to keep the fridge, wifi etc going if parked for a while but I usually leave those things on when away from the truck for a while, the lifeguard system shuts them down one at a time to save enough power to start the truck when not hooked up to shore power which is awesome.
