I'm in the market for a truck and found what I'm looking for... 2800 miles away. As I see it there's a few options:

    A) have it shipped
    B) fly out & drive it back
    C) pay one of my guys to fly out and drive it back
    D) wait for a load to go nearby (unlikely in our biz) and find some sort of one-way rental and drive it back

Anyone have any experience having a truck shipped back?
does anyone do one-way semi rentals?
    any experience with this connundrum?

shipping it... will cost you. don't know what kind of semi, but mid roof is, what? 12.4? on my lowboy that puts it at 13.6 with the tires deflated and axles on blocks (been there, done that). full condo....now its oversize. figure on $2.25 per mile on mid roof, more on condo.

driving it.... you will need plates, insurance, HUT sticker...ect. don't know where its at(?), but if its in Cali, it better be newer motor or $1800+ fine

ahhhh...the fun of buying something cross country. give us some more info and maybe we can come up with something

Cheaper to fly and drive yourself. If it's used, this also works as you will be able to take a closer look at it before making the final decision. Get a temporary tag from your DMV MVD whatever, call your insurer and have them fax you cards with the new vin. And put not for hire on the door when you bobtail home. Then get it inspected and registered upon your return.

My state offers 3 day travel permits .... I have no clue what MA offers.

yuck, I bobtailed home from MD with a single axle once, I really don't want to do it from Idaho. I can't imagine I could find some weird single-axle power only load. I suppose I could buy a trailer in idaho and look for some east-bound LTL? meh.

You could also get a hold of one of those drive away companies. They bring KW out to Idaho or nearby and drive that one back. They have dealer plates.

You could pay a drive away guy to move it and they worry about the red tape but probably by far the cheapest way to do it is fly over there and drive it back yourself so you're not having to pay for anybody's time and labor.

If it's a single axle you might want to check into pulling a 5th wheel camper back. I know a few guys that do that exclusively and do very well at it.

    Chevy power!

On a side note: I had my KW towed home by a buddy's wrecker. Cost me about $1k. Probably not the cheapest option but it worked better for me.

Fly there and drive it back only way to really learn what she's got how it's holding up and if you like it. Little fun trip. I'd say change oil and hammer down
