Double clutch when slow and heavy until you get 'er rollin', then the heck with the clutch. I can explain if you don't know how, use the clutch to pull it out of one gear, pause a sec in neutral, release the clutch,( gets everything spinning the same speed) push the clutch in again, hit the next gear, release clutch, but you gotta be fast, almost like "pumping" the clutch pedal, as road speed drops off fast when shifting w/ a heavy load.

For most guys having problems upshifting in the super low gears, they are over-revving before they try to advance up a gear.

    • 1st to 2nd no fuel, shift once it's rolling at "idle"
    • 2nd to 3rd - tiny bit of fuel, shift around 1,000 rpm
    • 3rd to fourth - tiny bit of fuel, shift around 1,100 rpm
Revving too high prior to up shift rarely makes for a smooth shift

Also, unless on an uphill grade, you can probably start in 2nd and this may help avoid additional aggravation. (Even at heaviest configurations)

Shift low rang gears low RPMs 1,000 or less and it will shift smooth as butter. Then when you get ready to flip the switch to high range bring it up to 1,600 RPMs and shift all high range gears at 1,600

It's almost impossible to match the gears in low range. That's why you shift at 1,000 or less. Because then you don't have to worry about matching the gears and the truck can pull the trailer even at 40,000 plus in trailer in low range.

Shift 800-1,000 RPMs in low range 1-5 then for 6 flip the switch and bring it up to 1,600 for 6-10 or what every gear is the first high range

What, nobody knows how to "double clutch" anymore? I wound the piss out of the trucks I drove, right to the governor, double clutched, grabbed another gear and boogyed down the road. Maybe with new motors, that's not necessary, but with an old Detroit, 1000 rpm shifting wouldn't cut it.
