The newer generation Eaton 10 has 2 Torx head screws under the metal shifting diagram plate on top,
That may help the rattle to some extent.

The truck I drive has the same problem and it drives me insane. I do 3 trips in n out of Chicago everyday in heavy traffic. Been thinking about taking it apart myself but Airgas might have a problem with it

International I drove had an Eaton with the same rattle, if I remember correctly the problem was the same. Hated that truck.

No help from the shop? I'm sure you could change it though if you had the right part and a few sockets and extensions..

Remove the cap and fill the inside of the shift knob with silly putty. The mechanics will hate you if the shift knob ever has to come off but it works.

It's the hollow space in the shift knob that amplifies the transmission noise.

Isolator bushing on top of the shift tower, between the tower and the stick. They do get sloppy over time.

Will replacing that bushing get rid of the shift knob rattle? My shifter is not sloppy at all but it does rattle without packing the hollow space.

Every Eaton I've ever seen has that rattle.

I know the rattle you speak of. I know we've changed a few of those bushings out due to wear but I've never had a driver write up a ##### sheet specifically for a shifter rattle.

Removing the cap lessens the noise. I wonder if that's why the caps are missing on dang near every company truck I ever drove.

Every 9 speed I ever drove got stuffed full of paper towels to shut it up.
