I work currently for Sharp Transit out of Webberville, MI. I still take care of my family farm so I need to be home every day or so. My dispatcher makes sure to hook me up with backhauls that I can do within my HOS for the day. Our main business is delivering groceries to the Aldi stores around our terminal. Great place. They took a chance hirting me right out of school and I definitely appreciate it. Definite A+ company in my book.

I'm looking for something local (Live in Detroit now, but any part of MI will do, i can relocate) What's the pay like?
-
Our main jobs are delivering to the stores 2 or 3 runs a day. Usually 2. Then there's our OTR guys. Then there's me. I do a little of both. Store guys bring home between $800 and $1,000 / week (from what I understand). OTR guys make more. I bring home $500 to $800 depending on my runs (I'm a unique employee in that I don't have a set schedule and do a variety of differant things, mainly backhauls). Obviously these numbers vary but as far as I know these are pretty close estimates. Check on Michigan Talent Bank and Michigan Works. They listed 4 more openings a couple weeks ago. We're a small terminal (18 trucks) and have alot of great communications between dispatcher and driver. Any other questions, I'll be happy to answer all I can.

Also, most of our stores are in the Detroit area and we have a few drivers that commute out to Webberville from that area. Bout an hour drive or so I believe. Depending on where you're at in Detroit.

I just put in a application for Salisbury NC location. Sounds and looks like top notch operation. Is the insurance really 100 percent paid. I have a good feeling about this company, is the pay really that good also.

I know a bit about Sharp Transit (Webberville, MI location), if you are looking for health insurance for yourself only, you will not have to pay an employee contribution. If you want health insurance for a family, I feel it's expensive - over $400 per month. That being said, the insurance is pretty good, co-pays reasonable, prescription co-pay reasonable.
Another thing about Sharp, expect to work LONG hours six days per week. They will tell you that once they have enough people hired on it will be less hours, but they have a revolving door when it comes to drivers, they never have enough. Very few drivers last more than a year, they get burned out in a hurry. -
Thanks BigWheels, when did you work for them? I am hoping things have changed, but you are right, they told me that right now they are working six days a week, but when they get a few more drivers on it would go to five. Anymore insight would be appreciated. Thanks SlingShot97

My buddy works out of their Michigan terminal now. Seems to be doing ok. Likes it much better than OTR.
