if anyone would like i can post a list of companies i have uncovered working out of the Los Angeles area that are operating in this fraud ring. I have identified several or the fake brokers and carriers doing this.

Ill pull my google docs sheet up at lunch and post some of the companies, its on my laptop (i keep separate from my actual work computer). Its really a shame we have to go through such trouble. I have been able to obtain Rate Cons and release paperwork from a few of them as well.
And yes ive also caught them calling from 702 area codes. One disturbing story we heard from a customer involved the hauling carrier crashing into a bridge causing a total loss claim without having the proper insurance. Since the carrier who booked the freight didn't haul it, their insurance denied the claim. Broker paid $40k out of pocket to make the customer whole.James j and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -
Really sad.
That's pretty much why I just stay with the same brokers I've built a repore with over the past 5 years. I know them, they treat me fairly and they ALWAYS pay. -

Here are a few
All originating out of the Glendale/Burbank/North Hollywood, CA area with 747, 818, 800/888 phone numbers.
All State Association MC# 460879 - they use a shell MC# to tender freight, then re-broker it. When you book with All State, they'll tell you to check in under a different carrier name/MC# - lately they have used Donald and Sons MC# 134515 and G & G Brothers LLC MC# 137139, among others. Problem is, if there is any kind of a problem with the freight, often as a result of them not listening to proper instructions and then playing a game of telephone, the delivering carrier doesn't get paid. I have personally caught them trying to double broker my stuff and have rate cons and release paperwork where they instructed me to check in under Donald and Sons MC#. I was able to obtain this without them verifying my name, phone number, MC#. I sent them a text message to the number they had posted, didn't even ask my name, just sent me everything i needed to pick up, my own freaking load of all things.
In the past they have used All Power Unit Services, P.G. Express, and a few others
TriStar Transit MC# 765720 - They have 9 FG Reports in 207 days. Every single one about double brokering using a shell company (to many to list) and then not paying the delivering carrier. I have personally caught them calling on our postings, getting the info, and then posting it up trying to cover it. I called on the DAT posting TriStar had up and found out the details were the exact same. Positive TriStar doesn't work with the customer.
Sureway Transportation MC# 186013 - same deal, they called on a posting going to Laredo, TX and gave an out of service MC# (after they mistakenly gave me MC#186013). Gave me the " let me check with my driver " excuse. Five mins later, its posted on DAT. I called and the person i spoke with tried to pitch me my own load for $200 cheaper.
Broadway Brokerage Inc MC# 023030 - same deal with these guys, although i don't have any personal experience. They book freight under a shell MC# and then double broker it to an unsuspecting carrier, usually someone with a very new MC and little experience booking their own freight. Once again the hauling carrier doesn't get paid and is forced to contact the broker and/or customer to get paid....This clearly creates a big clusterfuxxs for everyone involved.
There are many more of these scam artist out there taking advantage of people.razor1983, clausland, FoolsErrand and 3 others Thank this. -
This stuff is exactly why we have policy not to load any carrier with MC young than 6 months. Lots of these FG's refer to carrier authorities that are no inactive or are younger than 6 months.
-
What i have noticed is these scam artists basically just establish an MC# and use it until they burn it up, then go on to the next one. I have a handful of other MC#s i suspect are affiliated, or are being used by these companies unknowingly. But without definitive proof, i hesitate to post their info on here. Some of those have over 1 year of authority.
We generally like to only work with someone who has over a year of authority. We also check carrier 411 for affiliated companies and run driver names/numbers as well. Typically any 818/747 number gets extra scrutiny.clausland and Midwest Trucker Thank this.
