I know it sounds weird especially coming from a 20 year old, but can you shadow a otr trucker or even a local trucker? i prefer the otr just because thats the route i wanna go down later this year when i turn 21. if anybody knows of companies that do shadowing that would be awsome! and if this helps im from the midland-saginaw-baycity area of michigan. thanks for any help i can get!

Not sure of what you are asking. Some GPS systems out there use a follow feature to update roads that truckers use. But generally drivers really dont want a company looking over their shoulders. Mega companies have a satellite antenna that allows the company to see where its drivers are. Yet this isnt public info. CR England has a feature that when you are a employee of theirs you can look up a friends (or you could at one time) location by typing in their fender number.

Some of this borders on stalking and many people ask that others dont track them.

Are you talking about a ridealong?
You would have to know someone, and their company would have to approve. You would probably be looking at a local company, not OTR (unless, as I said, you know someone). Not very many local companies offer those kind of programs anymore, I'm guessing, and that would be because of insurance reasons.
My company does have a program, and I'm always willing to take riders. Unfortunately, I'm in Washington state.

Usually if your getting hired by a regional carrier for a specific route. The company will have you do the driving with a instructor riding beside you to get you to learn the route.

In spite of this sounding really creepy, might I suggest the Truckerbuddy program?

It's set up for schools, sort of a pen pal thing, with occasional classroom visits.
