I recently bought a "pickup mount" 14hp Kohler powered 30 gallon tank air compressor so I can do more of my own work. Makes me wish I had paid more attention and asked questions when the roadside service trucks showed up. Is 1/2" air line sufficient for a 1" impact? Can anyone recommend a good 1" impact been looking at those too. Lot of choices out there, prices all over the place. I see them with max torque ratings from 1400 ft lbs to 2300. Want to make sure I don't get something here that my compressor won't support. I've seen some service truck operators have to wait for air to build while others just impact away. Durable is important to me, I can shop for best price. Lighter weight is good. Thanks

I used 3/4" on a Hannay hose reel when I was in the business. As far as a 1" impact goes, CP 797 has always been my choice. They're heavy, but they're also heavy duty.

Why do you need more than 500? I've got a small 1" impact with what I think is 1/2" lines and type G fittings, it works great. I'll check those numbers. My problem is my compressor is too small and can't keep up. Delivery isn't an issue, I can break wheel nuts at 80 psi.

I use 3/4" hose myself. I also use the mid grade Harbor Freight gun. I have it for quite some time now, as in 5 years I think and it works great for $100. I only need to use 3-4 times a year at most, so it fits my needs. If I were going to open a shop, I would buy better.

They're up to $129 now, still dirt cheap, but that's why I asked it ought to do just fine. Same situation here this will be just a few times a year for my one truck/trailer. Looking at all those $600-$800 impacts, maybe if I was changing tires every day, but really overkill for my needs. Actually the compressor itself was a tad overkill.. my "shop" is the driveway for the for-seeable future, but I knew it'd be useful - save money - for many years to come so I got it.

I just run mine off my truck because I can't justify storing a big air compressor like yours currently unless I got a heck of a deal. Just oil that impact and it will last. A lot of magazines have 20% off HF coupons FYI.

You have more patience than me. Going to check around local pawn shops before I pull the trigger on HF just yet.

On high idle, I can break all the lugnuts with just one or two recharges, what maybe 2 minutes?

I'll be driving my own truck for at least another 25 years. Just another tool it'll get put to good use in different ways.
