I started with Service after turning in my lease truck at Swift in July of this year. I'm not gonna lie I was extremely nervous about pulling tankers. I would read about the surge or slosh and it sound pretty scary but I wanted more money and home time. Orientation was held in Houston at the main terminal and it was just one other guy and myself. We did the basics like paperwork and videos for 3 days straight. After the 3rd day I was able to come back home and started training with one of the senior drivers who mainly did local runs. We would pick up Caustic Soda in Point Comfort and bring it to various sites in Corpus. I would throw on my acid suit and other gear and unload the trailer about 3 times a day. I trained with the guy for about 2 weeks before I got my own truck. Since then I've been running OTR loads and it's been awesome. The surge isn't that bad, I'm only loaded half the time, and it's easy. We get paid by the mile now (it just changed from percentage to mileage) and I've been gettin' pretty good size loads. I've been averaging around plus/minus $1300 gross. I've made more and I've made less however the paychecks are fairly consistent. It is an out and back operation but I like to go to the terminal in St. Gabriel, LA and pick up another load and head right back out. I can come home after every load but I choose to stay out longer to try and make as much money as possible. Are they the best company ever? Probably not but they've been good to me so far. The only issues I have with them is they give a little to much time to get to your destination. For instance I left with a loading from Corpus that delivers to Carson, CA the 7th and it delivers on the 12th. It's 5 days to run 1500 miles. It's nice not having to rush but it gets boring having to wait. That's about all I can think of at the moment and bit me with some questions if you got any, I know there's not much info about Service on here.

That's good to hear. They have a terminal in Winder GA. I thought about talking to them. I am currently pursuing one job lead pretty hard. If that doesn't work out I may go talk to the tm at Service Transport to get some more information.

Keep us updated how things are going there.

What are they paying per mile now for company drivers? I was an owner operator and left them because of the low rates. I was on percentage with no back hauls.

Depending on experience it starts at .50 loaded and .32 empty. I think it caps out at .60 loaded and empty stays the same.

I think you might have us confused with Transport Service Co.

Yea pulling a tank is so much better than pulling a reefer/dryvan. I don't see myself ever going back.

I know Transport Service is in Winder but I am pretty sure Service Transport has a terminal there as well. I could be wrong though. However, .32 cpm on empty miles is enough to make me stay away from them. Thats almost like driving for free.

That's a little low on the pay. You just about always come back empty. It comes out to .41 a mile.
