make sure insurance is up to date and let it burn to the ground

 

Pull the speed sensor off the back of the tranny and go to where you gotta be.

 

Engine derate. The last step before shutdown. Bad def line?

 

Could be a number of things, I just went through this with mine. First was a bad DEF pump, then a doser valve, both times it indicated that it was going to put the engine in derate and it didn't happen. But if you don't want to do the 5 mph thing, pop the sensor off.

 

It actually didn't derate, got the big check your wallet light and in the display it said aftertreatment malfunction, engine will derate soon. So I called Volvo and they said that's standard, bring'er in. You have to unplug the speed sensor to override the 5 mph, you just won't have a speedo.

 

Volvo Dealer cant fix it? I would try hooking up a laptop and doing a long : burn" on it around 1000°. This will " buy you a little time,is all.Will more than likely end up needing a "new doser valve and new def filters.JMO

 

If they can't fix it, call Volvo and get their regional people on it, the mechanic is not doing his job.

 

Sounds like a possible DEF volcano in the SCR box. Any idea if the SCR system has been serviced? Like removed, power washed and inspected? They can be a real mess, if that is the issue. Agree with Ridgeline, lazy mechanic. Buy some tools and educate yourself on these systems, these shops will bankrupt you. My truck is going back together right now in my driveway.
