    Hi All.
I'm new here and my Name is Scott.
I have a 1995 Kenworth W900 With a 12L series 60, S/N 06R0329875 and a Model number of 6067GK60. This is the 3rd water pump that's been installed in a week. I was not notified that the customer had just replaced it. So i do not know the condition of the W/P seal on the one they replased but the 2nd pump i just put on made it 30 miles and it also started leaking out the weep hole.

Now when these W/P's are removed you can look into the bottom radiator hose inlet and clearly see that the w/p seal is fubar. Checked the bull gear and acc. drive gear. Nothing in side the oil cooler nor the rad.

Both w/p's are reman. detroit part's and i have no assess to bulletins on detroit motor's.

Tks for any info anyone may give to me.

What is the condition of the coolant, I assume green coolant?

I worked on those engines a lot and never had a problem with them, they may be having a bad batch of seals, A water filter is very important to the long term life of the pump, but three n a week is a bit much.

That's why I'm thinking the coolant is contaminated. Also the pump is supposed to be coated in oil in certain spots as per the detroit diesel instructions.

    tks for the quick responces.

the coolant is new and green.

the puzzleing thing was the new short inside water pump mounting bolt. i decited to pull off the lower rad. pipe and low and behold. inside the pipe was the missing bolt.

so im suspecting in a high flow condition the bolt was being sucked up inside the water pump and it beat the tar out of the impeller on the pump. thus tearing up the seal.

you can see the seal was wasted, all beat to crap.

now to install another reman pump and give it another go.

That's not good, but at least you found the problem. The only issue I've had with S60 pumps was leaking from the rear cover. The plastic covers warp. Detroit makes a cover replacement kit that comes with a metal cover. If they leak, the cover it a lot cheaper and easier to change than the whole pump.
