Can someone please post a photo of the serial number location on a 1993 through 2005 60 series Detroit? I have an engine which seems to be missing the ID tag or whatever Detroit used to mark the number. The ecm has been changed to a different year and is not showing the right engine. I have looked this up many times online and have talked to several experts without success. There are numbers cast into the block in 2 different locations, on the drivers side which are about 1/2 inch high, but they don't seem to be the serial number. If anyone can show a photo of an engine like mine with the serial number clearly visible it would be very helpful.
Series 60 serial number missing ?

mine is on the sticker on the vavle pan....i will look and see if that matches any cast numbers
areelius Thanks this. -
Should be on the bottom of the decals of valve cover.Think it usually starts with an L and then 5 or 6 digits.

It is on the center of the block rite under the intake manifold just below the head gasket. You may have to clean it with scotch brite and brake clean its a flat square boss.

The numbers cast in the block are casting numbers nothing to do with the serial number. These are either production numbers for the block or part numbers or both.
By the way, why are you asking for a picture?
Did you call Detroit - just curious?areelius Thanks this. -
Like rebel says, under the intake. Fairly large font. Clean the area and rub some chalk on it to see it.

really, arguing with Rebel...this ought to be good.

They are stamped on the flat square boss or if it is an 06re# there will be an aluminum tag riveted to the boss.areelius Thanks this.

No argument needed I would hope he miss understood me.

Arguing about what?
I may be wrong, I can admit to listening to those who built the thing as their explanation is accurate info but they've been wrong too. They said they stamp the serial number on the block, not cast it - they cast the numbers in the block for production purposes like part numbers.
