I removed my oil pan and when I put it back on with a new gasket, it leaks almost as bad as if there were no gasket. I had a black gasket before so I got the same one. The gray ones dont seem to fit right. I was careful to tighten the bolts from the center in a diagonal pattern gradually. I have done this twice now and I have no idea how it could leak in so many places around the pan . I used silicone on the seams front and back, but this is leaking all around. I prepped and cleaned everything super good so I would not have anything like this happen. I am not a newbie at working on engines, but I am no pro either. I let it idle for about 15 minutes and all looked good, so I drove for about 15 minutes and it started leaking. What could be wrong?

On my 14L the oil pan is fiberglass. I thought it was my gasket also, turns out the pan was cracked right along the bolt holes; new pan and gasket fixed it so you may want to check.

Mine has the fiberglass pan too. Were the cracks visible with the naked eye or did you need a magnifying glass to see them. I am getting alot of oil, and it had no leaks at all before I took it off.

Couldn't see them!! I would've never known if the shop had not recommend removal and inspection of it; looked like paint cracks but you could feel the crack with your fingernail. You'd be surprised how much oil can leak from a hairline split!!

How bad were your leaks? Were the cracks up under where the bolts push on the spacers ? Could you see them after the mechanic pointed them out? I think I will take a few of the bolts out and look under the rubber spacers with a magnifying glass. Maybe I cracked the pan when I tightened the bolts. The rubber spacers are there to prevent this. Maybe Rebel 127 will respond and help solve this.

Thats where mine cracked!! After cleaning you could see the cracks. At first it was a nickel to quarter size; by the end of the week it was 3-4 times that size!!

Triple T Freightliner says they replace those rubber spacers when doing a new gasket BUT the parts counter never mentioned that.......

Never saw a crack in the pan that does not mean its not possible. Is it leaking in the front or back of the pan?

It seems to be leaking all the way around as if the gasket isnt doing anything. Its hard to tell exactly because after I drive it, the wind pushes the oil around. I guess I will degrease the engine and idle the truck until I can be sure where the oil is leaking.

Where is a good place to get a new pan? Should I switch to a metal one? What should I expect to pay?

Did you replace the bolts/rubber spacers? The spacers have a sleeve that keep you from over tightening and cracking the pan. So the rubber is what really clamps the pan to the block. If they're worn out, weak or distorted, it's like not tightening bolts enough.
