well i think i know the answer to this question but wanted to be more sure that there arent any other options i could go with.

is there any way to mount METRIC type aluminum wheels on my 87' old school truck which has the older system of wheels on it where the holes for studs are alot larger and the rear axle uses a stud and nut type system to mount wheels?

and or vice versa to mount old school non metric wheels on a newer 00' truck which takes metric wheels from factory?

i have a deal going on trade my truck for a newer semi but the tires are shot and its sitting on 22.5. i told dude if he let me keep my 24.5 wheels with tires that i would trade, but now i rememeber that the two trucks both use different type of wheel systems. they are both 10lug but as i said one is metric and the older has the stud and nut type system.

any help on this would be great.

also do the newer detroit sereies motors are they known for having some blowby as this truck has some when you pull off oil fill, but its not blowing compression or oil on to my hand when i cover it up. ive had detroits before and they did have blowby just wondering what the over all concensus is .

The wheels are not interchangeable. The hubs would have to be changed. The old style wheels center on the studs and nuts, the new style center on the protrusions on the hub.

If you want to change the wheel type then you will have to change the hub type and brake drums too.

Detroits do show more crankcase ventilation than most other engines. It could be cause for concern or maybe not, a test would reveal that.

that im fully aware of but will they mount with the studs and harware thats on each truck without changing hubs.

i remeber back in the day when metric wheels first started coming out that the old school crown would mount the newer style wheels on the older trucks am i wrong or this wont work?

it sucks as its the only way i can make this deal is by keeping my wheels and tires. as the other trucks tires are shot to ####, but firgured it was worth a shot at asking since it is a deciding factor for me. plus im not going to mount 10 new tires on 22.5's id rather just stick with my truck but it would have been faster to just swap them.

    what test?

i drove the truck and she has power thats for sure, ive driven badly huffing detroits which had loss of compression therefore almost no power when driven.

i just wish i could swap the rims and make deal happen its a set of tires i dont want to invest in.

    Blowby test with a manometer.

The tire swap won't work without changing hubs and drums. You could also run into other problems such as 5th wheel height when swapping to tall rubber.

yep, hubs are interchangeble, but be carefull, becouse there are two bolt pattern available, US and EU. Meritor sells both. But if you fit European Hub you have to use EU 22.5 rims. They share studs, threads but nuts for 32mm socket (US nuts are 33MM M20x1.5), and bolt pattern differ. We did this mistake twice and we had to use different rims on one truck LOL!
