Do any of you guys have a semi truck registered as a motor home?
If so do you ever pull a step deck, lowboy hydraulic dovetail with it for for non commercial purposes. ( i.e. hauling your own property)
What have been your experiences if so?

Most class 8's registered as a RV have the 5th wheel removed.

No but sure sounds like asking for trouble.

It wouldn't be used for commercial purposes

You can't have a rv pulling a commercial trailer for hire. Even if you put Not for Hire on the side, it is still a commercial vehicle.
You can register your truck as an RV, most of the time it has to have a sink, a toilet and some other things mounted inside the sleeper. But then you are an RV not a truck at that point. -
Once the rig is registered as an RV it is no longer a commercial vehicle as it is now a recreational vehicle
Also my domicile state does not have a registration classification of commercial trailer a trailer is just a trailer doesnt matter if it 10ft long one axle or a 53 ft step deck it has the same registration classification
I am NOT for hire, I am hauling my own property. There is no compensation involved
Also it is not a requirement to remove the 5th wheel in order to register it as an RV
A RV can pull a bumper pull car trailer and flat bed trailer.
The rig is registered as an RV.... whats the difference with pulling a step deck or lowboy?ChevyCam Thanks this. -
Probably should check with your state. What do you move around recreationally with a lowboy? If you get pulled over you better have a good answer and be ready to go to court.

Tractors, army 6x6 trucks big stuff like thatChevyCam Thanks this. -
Trucks that are converted to RV's can get by hauling toys for example race cars, dune buggies, horses but not general live stock. You put livestock, or anything on a low boy and are not for hire than a Farm plate is what you need.
Deere hunter and wifi_guru Thank this. -
I always wondered about this.
I always dreamed of having a show truck. Just register it as an RV and drive it around to truck shows. No log book, no worriesDeere hunter and Big_D409 Thank this.
