A trucker lived to tell the tale after tipping onto a railing and nearly falling off of a bridge in Washington state during high winds on Monday.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. in Island County, Washington.

A semi truck travelling north on Highway 20 over the Deception Pass bridge was tipped and came to a rest against the bridge railing. The drop off of the bridge is approximately 180 feet, according to local outlet KOMO News.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Rocky Oliphant said that the truck driver was able to get out of the vehicle and wasn’t seriously hurt.

Removal of the truck took hours due to windy conditions and the northbound lanes remained closed for much of the day on Monday.

Wind gusts of more than 50 m.p.h. were recorded in Washington on Monday.

When I first started driving, I wondered why on the 93 reaching the Hoover Dam going both directions are signs posted “high profile vehicles use left lane.” This is exactly why. While I follow that sign others don’t and I have felt the winds on the bridge. Not far off from tipping.

not sure if that bridge has that sign but it sure looks like it needs it if it doesn’t.

well it's highly obvious to me, that the railing system was made in America with good quality AMERICAN steel.

i'd hate to think the end result with that imported Chinese steel....

I once might have taken the middle lane of the Susquehanna River bridge on I-95 at 50 MPH for this very reason. On a side note, that driver's cab was declared a biohazard.

Flat Earth Trucker and mjd4277 Thank this.
