I am trying to figure this out so I can get this truck off my mother's driveway its being stored at for at a year now. So, my brother during covid decided he wanted to purchase a semi-truck so he could stop being a company driver and lease on to a company with the truck. He purchased the truck cash and parked it at my mother house where it has sat since that moment. He found a better company driver job but they dont lease trucks and will most likely never use it. The truck has no plates, he has the title but it seems he cannot transfer the title without insurance which he does not have now so according to him so he cannot sell it. I tried to not get involved but my mother wants the truck gone and I have no clue as far as commerical rigs go as to how this can be sold.

    What state are you in?
In North Carolina it’s the same as selling a car. You just need the title notarized to transfer title.

Find a buyer, put insurance on it for a day and sell it. Whats the issue?

If your brother has the title and knows your mom wants it gone and refuses to do anything about it instead of helping him sell it I’d probably just have it towed away so that it forces him to deal with his responsibility.

I really doubt you will come back to look at this but here is something.

YOU DO NOT NEED INSURANCE TO SELL IT, THAT IS PURE BULLSH****!

IF HE DOESN'T live there, then your mom has two approaches to this, one is to call the cops and ask them to remove it as abandoned property and the other is just to find someone to tow it out there and tell your brother it is gone, deal with it.

So last November your brother needed help registering this truck that he got real cheap, so naturally he asked you, since you don't know anything about trucking. You were told how to get bobtail insurance so it could be registered. And now he refuses to deal with that or getting it off your mom's property and you're back again asking how to sell it.

You have the answer above. Have it towed off your mom's property so she can enjoy her home again. If the cops ask how it came to be that a stolen truck is sitting on her property, give them your brother's contact information so he can explain it.

Titles still need to be notarized?

In Colorado anyway. Saved my butt one time when I sold a car to a friend. A year later I was served with a lawsuit filed by someone he collided with in that car. Turns out he never changed the title or registration because the car had antique tags that were good for five years and they still had a little over a year on them. When I provided a copy of the notarized title, the lawyer left me alone. Lesson is, go to the DMV with your friend and make sure they change the title before you give them the keys.

I haven't had to notarize. And I keep the plates. For reasons you just mentioned.

One car I bought. Was a friend of my uncles. I had a 78 skylark that a valve went bad. I bought his car for the motor. It was a 77 skylark. I used my plate on his car for a bit. Till the cops pulled me over because the plates looked tampered. Mine bolted on top where his was at the bottom.

The cops went to the previous owner. My uncle was not happy with me for awhile. LOL.

I keep the plates on every vehicle I sell.

Yea, I know it all sounds stupid. The truck is in Texas. The truck has been sitting but its not in the way of anything, so it has not really been an issue per say but she it just tired of looking at it now. After talking to my brother he does want to sell but even he has always been a company driver and does not know what to do as he never planned on doing anything but leasing it on to another company which I assume they take care of everything to get the truck plates...etc.

So if he gets insurance on it, finds a buyer then he can go to the dmv with the buyer and the title can be transferred directly into his name or am I missing something. If its that simple then yea no idea why he is thinking something else.
