With all I've read here on the Trucker's Report Forum about IC Choice, I haven't seen anyone refer to it as 'Owner Operator' before. So I had been searching for 'IC Choice' on Schneider's website. A little disconnect there.

I called that number you provided me with today. Lady i spoke with said she was going to email me some more information tomorrow morning. (It was almost quitting time for her.)

I find it hard to believe they don't provide you with all the (written) details before you apply. I was told I would have to submit an application first and then they would provide the (written) details. Seems kind of backwards to me.

I guess they get so many calls about it, they want you to apply first and check you out before any info is sent out I guess. If they sent out info to every person that calls, we would not have any trees left lol...Or at least the internet would go into vapor lock.

Lease facts for Van Truckload Owner-Operators
(Note: The policies listed below are subject to change without prior notice.)

Passengers – Owner- operators are allowed passengers at time of hire if accident free for previous 6 months. Family members must be 10+ yrs of age or non-family members 18+ yrs. Passenger insurance is $10.60/mo ($2.65/wk). Fill out paperwork for each passenger and keep it in the truck at all times. Only one passenger is allowed in the truck at a time. There is no additional fee per month per additional passengers.
Pets - If bringing a pet, it must stay at the hotel in their room while they are in orientation. The mechanics need to be able to go into the truck and install the qualcomm, inspect it, make any necessary repairs, apply decals, etc. Need copy of shot records in tractor that are up to date.

Weapons - Prohibited while on company property & in any company owned or equipment. A weapon is defined, but not limited to: firearms, knives w/blade over 4 inches. A license to carry a weapon on company property does not supersede company policy.

Chains - Required Sept. thru May in mountain states. Chains are their responsibility. (appx cost $200)

King Pin Lock - Enforcer brand is sold at orientation for $60 (at cost) or $15 from 1st 4 settlements.

Haz Mat –Haz mat loads are available, but getting the endorsement is optional, great way to earn more revenue, $25 for each hazmat load moved (call hotline).

Qualcomm (MCP 200) - No charge for installation or business use. No monthly business fee. Electrical engine needed with ECM (electronic control module) for qualcomm to work. Includes GPS navigation, electronic logging, text to voice messaging, and in-cab training

Escrow - Van Escrow-$50/wk for the 1st 20 weeks until reaches $1000; you will get this money back if you term your lease with Schneider as long as you return the Qualcomm and don’t have any outstanding balances with Schneider.

Base Plates/Permits – Schneider offers plates and permits at the discounted rate of $32 per week, less a $50/yr admin fee. Total is $1,650/yr. Schneider plates are apportioned out of the state of Indiana. If an owner-operator has their own base plates, they need a cab card/registration for all 48 states. Schneider will provide permits for $43/year.

Liability/BT Insurance (Bobtail) Non-Trucking Liability Insurance - $35/m through SCHNEIDER ($8.05/week) Owner operators can get insurance on their own, but it must be $1 million in coverage.

Occ Acc/Work Comp Insurance - $154/m through TrueNorth ($35.45/week). Owner-operators can get insurance on their own, but must have $1 million in coverage. For teams, each person needs coverage. Sign up is during insurance presentation during orientation.

Tolls - Schneider pays or reimburses tolls in New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Illinois and Oklahoma. You will receive a transponder in orientation with an ezpass in it. Add’l $15.50/month to add prepass to transponder.

Prepass - $15.50/month ($3.88/wk) to pass scales, billed to IC. Don’t have to waste time at scales, DOT knows Schneider is compliant. Does not work for agricultural stations. Schneider doesn’t reimburse for CAT scale when load is weighed to make sure it’s legal on highway.

2290/HVUT (Heavy Vehicle Use Tax) – This must be paid to the IRS, expires annually at the end of June. The cost is $550 per year.

Fuel Tax (IFTA) - Schneider automatically figures amounts and provides monthly statements, not based on fleet average, it’s where driver fuels and roads they drive on. Deduction is once per month (4th full week of every month). Shop/Maintenance will put IFTA stickers on truck during orientation.

Fuel card - EFS card used to fuel trucks and can get up to $325 cash advance on card. Fuel purchased Monday by midnight will be taken out of the following Friday settlement (It doesn’t matter when load delivers). Discounts for fuel on cash price ($.05 savings from pump price) Ambest $.03, Petros, TAs, & Loves $.05, Pilot’s & Flying Js range is $.08 - $.24 off per gallon. 400 gallon per day fuel limit. Operating centers reflect the lowest fuel price in the state. Fuel cards can be used at hundreds of stops. Owner operators do not have to use fuel card, it’s their choice.

Operating Centers – Network of 24 operating centers, free laundry facilities and showers, cafeteria services or vending machines, ice, exercise equipment, lounge area and use of company cars if available.

Transflo Scanning - No cost. Available at Pilots, Flying J, Loves, and Operating Centers. Don’t have to mail in bills.

Settlements - Direct-deposit into a checking account, EFS card or split pay into both. Settlements are paid every Friday for bills received in GRB by Monday at 5pm.

Orientation Details - Orientation starts every Monday and goes for 4 days for percentage program and 3 days for mileage program. Schneider provides hotel (we ask you to share a room), hotel provides breakfast and Operating center provides lunch. Dinner is not provided. $150 orientation pay along with a $500 sign on bonus will be deposited on date of first settlement, which is the second Friday after completion of orientation. If you leased with Schneider in the last 3 years you will not receive the $500 bonus. Owner-operators will be paid $.50 per mile to bobtail to orientation. If bringing a person/pet-will need to confirm availability & pay for own room upon arrival.

Mileage Only - All loads are pre-assigned to maximize utilization. If a pre-assigned load does not meet your requirements, a secondary load may be assigned. This program is not forced dispatch.

Choice program – 65% of 100% of LOH rate, 100% of FSC pass thru, 100% of select accessorials (hand load, hand unload, stop offs, diversion/reconsignment, pallet jacking); we pay for lumpers, call lumper hotline; must have laptop with nationwide internet access, will need inverter installed or plug in to cigarette lighter for power. If they don’t deliver the load they are moving on, a $400 charge will be issued to recover costs incurred. They will receive a percent of payment for the miles they moved the load. A leader will have to contact dispatching and find a driver to move the load.

Loading/Unloading - Must be able & willing to do so. 70% of freight is drop and hook. For mileage only you get $100 for full unload, $50 for partial. Schneider pays for lumpers to hand unload (use T-check).

    Truck requirements:
    · Age limit of truck is 10 years or newer
    · Needs to be equipped with an ECM (electronic control module to hook-up a qual-comm)
    · Sliding 5[SUP]th[/SUP] wheel is required, no wiggle room allowed
    · Tractor weight fully fueled should be 20,500 lbs or less
    · Wheel base 260 inches or less (exceptions can be made on a reviewed, individual basis)
    · Tractor will be DOT inspected the first day of orientation. Make sure brakes are adjusted, no holes in the exhaust system, lights work, reflectors are in place, tires are legal, check for oil/fluid leaks, no cracks in windshield, no wiggle room in 5[SUP]th[/SUP] wheel.
    · Remove decals and lettering before the truck inspection. If our mechanics remove decals/lettering it will cost a minimum of $62. Mechanics charge by time and materials, so cost varies.

Fuel Surcharge Explained – The money we receive from customers to compensate drivers for the high cost of fuel. For example; Tractor gets 6 mpg and the fuel surcharge is at $.43/mile for empty and loaded miles.
Calculate $.43 x 6 mpg = $2.58. The Nat’l DOE fuel cost per gallon is $4.05. Calculate $4.05 - $2.58 = $1.47. Then subtract Pilot/Flying J fuel discount and divide by 6 to get per mile cost. The total is around $.25/mile.
    · Mileage program: Paid on all contractually dispatched miles (loaded & empty). Based on DOE's (Dept. of Energy) 6 week average, calculated weekly (updated every Monday).
Percentage: 100% FSC (fuel surcharge) pass-through

Can you go over what factors made you decide to go with SNI, and not others. Can you also list some of the other companies you looked at before choosing SNI. Thanks!

EXACTLY what I'm looking for. Thank you! I'm surprised Schneider doesn't provide this to you BEFORE applying. How long ago did you receive this? Does Schneider provide any other documentation?
