I hear what you're saying but that' no excuse to treat every driver like crap is it?Of course there's many drivers out here with bad attitudes and if one takes his or her anger and stress out on me im not at all afraid to give it right back to him or her but I dont take the bad apples I run across out on everyone else.

While I'm not defending any of the idiots y'all mention in this thread, I'm on the other side of the scale, I'm a guard at a plant right now (Hate this ##### job not cause of y'all though)
I have had drivers show their ###, when I told them the inspection for their shipping container was gonna be a few minutes, because something on the container didn't look right, and I was going to wait for the shift leader to come up and give me a yay or nay.
Had a driver last week not paying attention on the empty trailer pad hit a tree and bust out the window over his sleeper, and called me every name in the book when told we weren't going to pay for his stupidity.
had a guy yesterday argue with my co-worker, when he left the plant, drove past the 3!! right turn signs, and me telling him to turn right, and went left, down a one way street the wrong way, during shift change at the plant, so theres 30-40 vehicles coming at him. that was a fun mess to unscramble, and he tried to say there was no signs.
Also, when I worked at a shopping center, the stores started complaining about big rigs parking on the property at night, because it was blocking their signs, I still never enforced it, neither did any of the rest of us, until the head manager started putting heat on us.
then still, it was just go back around back of the shopping center and park, its no big deal, the back was huge, bout the size of a truck stop parking area.
I saw a moving company 18-wheeler pull in one night, and I went out there, told him to go park around back, he said no problem man. I go back to the office, and then I see the driver and crew walking up across the property toward the fast food joint across the street. So my boss and I go out there, and tell them, hey man, you need to move the truck, now, I don't have much of a choice in the matter, the property manager is still here, and I'm gonna get #### canned if you don't move the truck.
he proceeds to tell us to go to hell, calling us both every racial slur he could think of, (cracker is my favorite) that not only was he going to go eat, but he was not going to move the truck, until morning time, when he was ready to leave. and asked us what we were going to do about it, (Including him and his moving crew, there was 4 of them, and 2 of us) so I called the local cops, and him and his crew went and locked themselves in the truck, when the LEOs showed up, they still refused to get out, until they started threating to break the window out of the rig, then they got out, they still told the LEOs that they were not going to leave, that the "##### RACIST RENT-A-COPS" couldn't tell them anything, well, all four of them learned what a trespassing charge was, and the local HD towing company came and took their rig to the impound yard.
Now most drivers I have met have been very nice and helpful people... at one of our beach hotels even had one that was suppose to drop a loaded reefer trailer for a big show, and he parked with the empty on our employee lot, because traffic was way to bad to drive on this island with anything bigger than a pickup. and he was nice enough to offer us to take turns on our breaks and go chill out in the trailer to cool off.
110 degrees on the beach, wearing black pants and a polyester grey shirt, with no shade, and dealing with the dumbest and most arrogant tourists youve ever seen makes for some grumpy security guards, haha.
you all have a safe night, be careful out there, we are all surrounded by stupid peoplegearjamin, Leftlane101, TruckermanD and 5 others Thank this. -
I worked security after I got out of the Army and before I got into trucking. While security IS a low paying, thankless job and the security officers are usually the low people on the totem pole, they DO have a job to do, that obviously many people do NOT want to do.
Most companies only have security personnel for one reason.....lower insurance rates.
As in any line of work, there are always going to be bad apples in the barrel. With every BAD security officer you come across, you're going to get 5 or 6 of them that actually take PRIDE in their low paying, thankless job.
My only suggestion to all you naysayers about Security is, spend an 8 hour shift with one of these security people and just see what they have to deal with on a daily basis. -
Right after 9/11 one of our drivers made a delivery to a local government contractor. The guards were thoroughly inspecting every vehicle going in. Our driver... who was an #####* to begin with... went absolutely ballistic on the guards telling them he didn't have time. The facility manager called the owner of our company soon after and he fired the guy immediately after arriving back. I think our owner has only fired this guy and one other guy in the last 12 years. Both deserved it many times over. We are like family and it breaks his heart to fire anyone.
I've delivered to that same government facility many times over the years. Their guards are about the nicest folks you'll ever meet. They just have a job to do and people to answer to.Last edited: Apr 25, 2012
Polky55 Thanks this. -
Had one in Arkansas and dude was so rude was hopper bottom load of wheat. Sat there for half day because they was full. Security guard on shift change didn't tell the guy coming in that I was waiting to get unloaded so he thought I was sleeping on there property. Well Kinda was a little but anyways. I get woke up to a wrecker hooking up my rig. Didn't even knock on my door. Just hooked up and almost started to move till I blew horn. Security guard came out blowing up at me for blowing my horn. Mind you it was atleast 2 or 4 am in the morning. Needless to say cops got called State troopers came aswell checked my log book and stuff. I get warning for disorderly conduct They arrest the security guard impound the wrecker and arrest the driver of that truck. I called my boss said dump load on ground sign BOL and leave. Get 40miles down the road and new security guard calls me complaining just hang up on him.
There plant manager calls me. And says for the record I'm banned from there property aswell as the Carrier. Then he proceeds and says this is off the record. If that was me I would of done same #### thing and askes where I'm at nervously tell him he says stay there. So I wait dude buys me breakfast and gives me 20bucks cash. -

The security boss is an idiot in that case, but I do not really blame the guard for the refusing to let you out without the pass, and passing it on to his boss, I would do the same thing, not because I think your jacking something, but because by policy I can't let a truck out this gate without paperwork, or I will get fired. What is moronic to me is them letting you in a secure area and then finding out where you are going, so I could steal a truck and trailer, and drive in this place, and you get the idea.

I'm not familiar with law in the states but over here it works like this.
On entering a facility you are asked to sign a wavier.
This clearly states that you give the security appointed at the facility the right to search your person or property and you are to obey instructions and procedures.
If you are not willing to sign you are not allowed access.
Reasonable in my opinion.
It is a bit of a grey area in law because basically by law you are not allowed to sign away you rights.
It is however enforceable if they are specific about what right they are asking you to waive and not just a vague waiver of your rights.
There are also certain areas here that are referred to as national key points.
Places like some airports, powers stations, prisons etc that have been given rights beyond that of and general area.
At these points the security have more leeway as to what they are allowed to enforce on you. -
They way I see it, and maybe I'm wrong, is there aren't any rights being violated at least at a private facility, it's their property, they can tell you you have to do whatever they want you to do, they can say only people with purple shirts are allowed in. and only if you get a cavity search, if you don't like it, leave, and nothing happens.
The only thing I've ever had helpful happen during a truck inspection was find something a driver missed on a pretrip or happened enroute, I try to be helpful and point serious issues out.
