Wondering which flatbed company you guys thought offered the best securement training. Have been thinking of getting flatbed for some time. Have 13 years driving experience but zero flatbed experience. Currently running a van and I find myself beyond bored. I live in New Jersey if that helps any. Thanks for any and all insight.

There is a flatbed training course in the NY area. Not exactly sure of city but it cost around $350 an it's a one day course an they will give you an all day course on securement.

    Puppage and Pharroh336 Thank this.

When I started trucking, I went straight to flatbed. Drove for an owner operator at age 18. Went with one of his driver's for one day and they cut me lose on my own truck. I learned securements 101 style. Just looked at other loads and ask questions if they where around. Everything else fell in place. And I still learned different things as I still go along.

Most of flatbedding is common sense to be honest. Especially if you're only dealing with strap n go loads.
It's the monster loads that will throw you for a loop at times. Questioning yourself should I use chains or straps?
    Edge protectors or no?
    Belly wrap or no?
But it will all come in trial an error.
U just hope an pray the error isn't the load spilling out onto the freeway an up into somebody's winshield

    Pharroh336 Thanks this.

An a lot of the shippers will even tell you what type of equipment the load requires. So even then you won't be totally blind to what you're getting into

I usually throw the extra securmennts when that happens. I little over kill at time. But it looks prettier when your crossing the scales.

I have had shippers tell me how to secure there load, and I said, "really, your kidding, right ?" And I would tell them, I will do it my way. Been there done that. They wouldn't question me. And I have hauled some nightmare loads. But I get it done.

areelius, jacquesi23 and Pharroh336 Thank this.
