Anyone know a better way than using wood and nails to secure spaced pallets from sliding?
Several loads and the shipper has to spread the pallet apart so the weight can be spread the length of the trailer to axle it properly.
It has been tearing up the floors, nails left in the floor and very difficult to remove, just a mess all around, any alternatives?

Air Bags do a great job if you got the means.

Logistic straps if you have a logistic trailer with rails.

Build a bulkhead

I think he's talking stuff like welding rods. No there is no alternative other than nailing or blocking in front instead of the pallet itself. Carry a good long crowbar with you and it's not as bad. To many yahoo's pass the buck and leave their nails.
The easiest thing to do is not hire on with such a company. I've learned that over the years. Nailing and blocking is exclusive of certain companies. They haul one load, they'll haul a hundred. Go to the next company and they won't touch that kind of freight.
If you are hauling LTL you shouldn't have whole truck loads? -
What about the thin rubber pads that shippers put underneath paper rolls to keep them from sliding?

i have hauled lead from eagan mn before. they nail the hell out of the trailer floor. what was more amusing was when i would drop the trailer and they tried to tell me to get the nails out of the floor. lmao like that happened.

Let a flatbedder handle the load. LOL! You could try spacing blocks. (1' pieces of 4x4's). Skateboarders call 'em vertical blocks. We use them for spacing between bundles on loads of steel bar, and also for coil block (trip chain) assemblys. If you construct a bulkhead for front pallet like someone else suggested, then between the next pallets, lay down these as spacers- touching both pallets from inbetween. Have the forklift operator ensure the pallets are snug tight up to each spacer. Then do your little nailing a block down on the trailer floor just on the sides of each pallet to keep 'em straight I guess... that is if you can't use straps or chains to do so inside the trailer. Or, you could just refer back to my first statement.

Are the skids that heavy that they cant be staggered? You know, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1, 2, etc.....something of that nature. I gotta deal with nails almost daily, a good long crowbar is essential and learning your putting stroke for the broke off nail heads.

I forgot to mention these are low to the floor so the straps will not reach
I do not mind pulling the nails, I am getting paid by the hour
just hell on the equipment.
