Hello all! First time posting, just joined the forum.

I'm currently working on specing some new trucks for the company I own. Trucking will be a new service we are providing and I have little experience in the trucking industry... I imagine that some of the owner operators out there might be able to offer me some great advice!!!

I have a question about seats... I've been looking at the Sears Elite 80 Series, with swivel, and the nifty stowaway arm rests! Any comments on this seat???

As for seating surfaces...what do drivers perfer??? Leather, vinyl, cloth, any different types of fabric??? I would choose leather in a 4-wheeler any day, but in a truck I'm not so sure???

This will be mostly for OTR short and long distances. Driver comfort and retention is number one on my list! Thanks for any input!!!

    BRANDON!

First off Welcome to the forum. You are right these guys do give great advice. What truck are you putting the seats in? As far as the swivel goes I wouldn't even waste the money as they will probably never get used.I prefer cloth in a truck that you are sitting in for 11 hours a day because the leather and vinyl make a guy sweat really bad and it is not comfortable in my opinion. Sears makes a really comfy seat and is always my first choice. Be sure that the seat you pick has enough padding in the bottom of it and a good lumbar support. I feel when specing a truck the one place not to get real cheap is the seat.

sears makes a great seat. Stay away from any of the wide ride seats. after about a month they are like sitting on a piece of plywood..... no support, and i'm a WIDE boy...lol

I say cloth also. don't bother with the swivel, first off they only work in certain trucks and after the first few times swiveling them just to check it out, they never get used again. I've had them in internationals and never used them.

the inset arms are nice in a narrower cab like a KW or peterbilt but is something wide like a volvo, freightliner century, etc your just as well off with regular arms and I think they are cheaper that way

I'll make it the 3rd vote for cloth. You couldn't pay me to have leather seats in a truck.

Picked up a 2000 W900L with an leather Elite80 and a wooden steering wheel. My other truck is an 09 Pete 386, nice truck for a fleet truck. Havent ever driven one of the cloth Elite 80s, but booooooooooyyyy is that a nice seat.

"Driver comfort and retention is number one on my list!"

    Hiring owner operators?

The factory Pete seat is worlds better than the one I had in my 08 Columbia, but it pales in comparison to the Elite 80. Drive the Pete 11 hours and my legs feel "restless", and I have to move around...maybe its my circulation. Not so with the Elite 80! I am spoiled now!

Thanks guys for the advice....exactly what I'm looking for!

The truck is going to be either a FL Coronado or a Pete 387.

I've talked to the Sears people and I've been told that the "ultra leather" finish is "breathable" to prevent the sweat and sticky back. They also told me that the cloth adds a good amount of cushioning to the seat. The runs could be anywhere from a few hours to the full 11. Drivers will also be spending a good deal of time waiting to load and unload.

So far the feeling seems to be forget the swivel? Does anyone out there see any advantage to the swivel??? I like to pay attention to the small details!

I'm more than willing to spend whatever it takes to put a seat inese trucks that all the drivers will love. Going to put the matching passenger seat in too!

    Any new thoughts???

    Brandon!
