I have a 93 Ford LTS9000 straight truck with drywall crane that I have sitting around for about a year now I need to get rid off. Truck in pretty rough shape. Body is pretty bad shape. Engine is a cat 3306 with 333k need some new seals, throttle return return spring in the fuel pump, smokes like a chimney on cold starts (think valves guides and seals are bad) then clears up, and burns some oil. Otherwise it start and runs perfect. Transmission Eaton 8LL that works fine, and differentials work fine. The crane has some leaky house and the cylinders are in good shape with a few could use a rebuild. The motor on the forks definitely needs a rebuild.
Based on the weight 18-19 tons going to a scrap yard I would get about $1500. The junk yards offered me $2000. The crane when they are off the vehicle don't go for much $800 to $1200. Sad because the crane has bearings that are not that old on it and was $10,000. There used to be a shop near me that rebuild and bought used IMT cranes and pats but he sold out and the new owners don't do that type of stuff anymore.
I think maybe take the cylinders off and sell on ebay or to a hydraulic shop. Sell the engine (or possibly overhaul on my free time) and trans really cheap. Scrap everything else including the rear end cause I don't have space for them. Then would maybe get $1000 to $2000 more then what I was offered?
Scrap, junk, or part it out?

If it were me I would part it out right where it sits.
Someone will probably buy the hood in a short period of time. Someone would probably buy the radiator and the doors and mirrors.
Someone will definitely buy the transmission. And the engine depending on the price.
I would imagine that truck has heavy axles under it.
You won't get that much but junk yards want like $2,000 for a heavy front axle. You can probably get a thousand bucks if you cut the frame off and give them the heavy front axle spring steering box and everything. You might get 1500 I don't know and if the tires are good that's worth a little more money.
If those are heavy rears I would try to sell them. I had a set of heavy rears from a 1990 Peterbilt that I got almost $3,000 for. But if they are good condition heavy Rears I can't imagine someone wouldn't give you at least $2,000.
I'm sure someone would buy the crane. Get whatever you can.
Whatever is left haul it to the junkyard and you're done.
You never know someone might give you a decent price for the whole thing and just tow it out of there.
Some guys want to have an extra truck for parts and if it has a good Transmission and good rears and all that who knows?Casimir66, truckdriver31 and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -

My uncle still runs an LTL in the fleet, parts are getting to be a thing though, so I would definitely cut it apart

The complete cab is worth $3000 if the areas where the mounts are are not rotten. The windshield glass alone if still clear is worth $200.
3306’s are still sought after. They used those small 10.5’s in a lot of equipment and boats as well as trucks. As time passes any Cat that was used in a truck is gonna be sought after.Last edited: Oct 12, 2020

First add in the Truck Paper is free sell it in on piece and get rid of it in one shot.

If it needs to go ASAP, scrap. Otherwise I'd sell as is. Parting it out is going to take a loooooong time to see it disappear. JMO.
bzinger and homeskillet Thank this.
